Writing for Associated Content

I write for Associated Content like a lot of others on here do, and the first two articles I submitted got accepted for up-front payments. Since then I can't seem to write about subjects that they will give me an up-front payment for. They say the quality of writing is good, but the subject is either too broad, too common, or not broad enough. I really only prefer to write for up-front payments, although I will still submit them for performance if they are not excepted. I just don't want to spend a lot of time writing what I believe is a really good article for it to just get pennies a day. I am writer that thinks no writer should ever write for free unless for a good cause. So... I was just wondering, for those of you who get up-front payments regularly, what type of subjects do they want the most? Or what subjects are more likely to be accepted for up-front payments???

I was just wondering how you get started writing for a place that really pays you. I have never heard of Associated Content. Is that similar to the Associated Press? I would like to start writing articles or something like that and get paid for it. I have an idea or two, but I don't know how to get paid for it. I started at Mylot so that I would at least get paid a little bit for posting comments. I was hoping that communicating with people here would get me headed in the right direction.

Well, you can just go to associatedcontent.com and have a little look around. Basically you sign up for free, create a little profile and start writing. They do have some specific guidelines, but they explain them pretty well. You basically can write about any subject you want and submit if for either exclusive (you cannot publish it anywhere else), non-exclusive (you can publish elsewhere, but they have rights to it), or display only (you obtain all rights). You make money in two ways, up-front payment and performance payments. In order to get upfront payment, you have to at least select non-exclusive rights and then it is up to them whether or not they give a payment ranging from $3- $20. Performance payments are based upon page views, the more page views, the more money. Any article submitted for up-front has automatic access to performance payments, but not the other way around. There is also Constant-Content(constantcontent.com) where you write the article on whatever you want and select how much people can buy it for. They have much stricter guidelines, but the potential for real money is much better. Hope this helps and good luck with earning money on your writing!

There are a whole host of options for making money from your writing. None of them pay fantastically, but if you write enough you can find yourself making money doing it. If you go to my profile you will find a link to my blog and to a number of sites that I write for (I haven't updated all that recently, but it is a good list thus far).

I like subjects that I feel the most comfortable with. I'm talking the ones that will get me to become more motivated. I stick to topics that I'm more confident about and I'm sure that will be pretty lengthy. I don't mind writing for free, I guess. However, I find myself looking for subjects that interest me rather than just writing whatever, you know? As long as I get some of my work out there for people to read. There are times that I do wish cash up front.

I feel the same way. I tend to want to write short stories but I am not so sure they are going to be popular so I may have to reconsider focusing more on what will get me those page views and not so much what interests me. I love to write and hope the the types of articles I decide to submit will be good choices. Thanks to everyone here who have been so helpful.
