Is your telephone number on the National Do Not Call Registry?

A law passed in the U.S.A. during February 2008 that allows you to place a telephone number from a land line or cell phone on this list and it never expires. If you do receive a call from a telemarketer after 31 days of your number being on the list you can file a complaint. Here is the website www.donotcall.gov

Yeah, I think I put my number on that list. The other day I got an email saying that May 31st was the last day to put your cellphone number on this list, after that they will be able to call you. So I did, both mine and my husbands, they get so irritating sometimes. I hate when you answer the phone and your standing there saying Hello, Hello, and nobody's saying anything on the other end. I just hang up...

Its because those phonecalls are voice activated, unless they hear you on the other line they don't say anything. I'm voice aggrivated when that happens, hello x 15 just gets my goat!

Yes, I knew about that. Did you see my discussion about telemarketers and Phone Tray Free? Telemarketers aren't allowed to call you about 30 or so days after registering on there. Then if you let your creditors (like banks, and credit card companies) know in writing to put you on their do not call list (internal) then they can't call you, either. Otherwise they can be fined. The Do Not Called Listed is headed by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). There is a similar law in UK as well. Actually a few other countries have it as well. There are more details in regards to this subject on Wikipedia.com Have a wonderful day. Pablo

Hello gitfiddleplayer. It is very kind of you to tell people about the do not call list. Yes, our home phone is on the list, since the first week they started the list a few years ago. And, I must say, it works very well. We simply get only rare calls from people asking for money or trying to sell things. I need to place my cell phone on this do not call list also. Hmmm, now I'm thinking maybe I already did that, too. Thanks for the reminder as many people can definitely use this info. PearlGrace

Our number is listed on the Do Not Call registry. We do not receive that many marketing calls anymore since we enlisted. There was one time that I received a telemarketer call and I told the guy that it is unlawful for him to continue calling us and that I will report him and his company if he continues. He eventually stopped. We still get calls from my university alumni asking for donations and from police organizations and other non-for-profit organizations that also asked for monetary contributions. I think they are exempted from the DNC I guess.

They are, those are not telemarketer calls, those are from a source that you know.

Is there such a law around?? I dunno that.. hehe.. ANd i dun think there's such a law in my country.. The most we can have is a low profile number or we have to pay extra to switch it under private number.. hehe

I'm not in the US, but when I used to have a landline phone and a choice, I didn't list myself in the phone book. My number was available from directory enquiries, so if you knew my name you could go find it, but the telemarketers that work form phone books oculdn't access it. Right now we get loads of marketing calls, but they are all form the phone company! There's a not allot we can do to prevent them having the number ...
