Has anyone read this book? It is a very disturbing true story of one of the most horrible cases of child abuse. However the author is the man that once was the abused boy and he tells it from his point of view as to what he was thinking and feeling at the time. Also it can be inspirational in some ways to see how this boy overcame these terrible obstacle's and turned into a fine man. There is a part two to it called "lost boy" both books I highly recommend reading. Jas

Isn't there three books to that series. One telling of what life was like as a child for him. Then telling of how it was like as a teenager. The last telling of how he copes as an adult with his own child.

I liked all three and i have them somewhere mixed in with all my other books. The first one tore my heart out, the second and third ones you see the struggles he goes through to overcome the things that happened to him. Especially in the third one after so many years he still struggles with the things that happened to him.

There are actually three books...A Child Called It, Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave....I've read the first one and my daughter JUST finished reading it recently actually and yes it is an AMAZING book and Dave Pelzer is an incredible man....I've yet to read the other two though but i"m planning on it... Another good one (for lack of a better term) but hard to read (for me because its a trigger in some areas) is When Rabbit Howls..

I read the entire series many years ago. It's amazing what we can endure some times.

I found this man to be truly amazing.I have heard of child abuse before but and there are cases just as bad as his. However the way he describes what he was thinking and feeling while it was going on is what really compels you to keep reading. It is a sad story yet you can't help admiring him for his courage and the fact that he ended up being the man he is today.I wonder if the abuse in some sick way made him a better man then he would have been ,stronger and more aware of enjoying what life can offer. The perhaps he would have been if he hadn't endured this. I have! It's the kind of book you hesitate to pick up and at the same time have to out of curiosity. Dave Pelzer tells his story with such a mournful brutal honesty.....your heart will break and then you'll run to thank your mother.

Yes, I have read all three of the books and it was so, so sad and horrible. I saw him on TV, I don't remember what show it was. May have been Oprah. But he told a little of his story so I decided to get the books. It is uplifting though to know that he has overcome all this and made a good life for himself.
