Maxie ran away, again ---- maybe for good

Ever since I took him in, Maxie has tried to sneak out the door countless times. He was successful this time, and ran away. I called him and tried to pet him, but he growled and tried to scratch me. He wouldn't walk back in the house or let me pick him up. I keep hoping that he's just chilling out in someone's backyard and not out there crossing streets. He's eaten very well so far and has no need to hunt for food, but I am still worried. Perhaps he's a feral cat after all.

Can you put out fliers? call local vets and shelters to see if he was turned in? Yes, put food out. Also put out a T-shirt that you have worn so it has your scent. He may come back to that. Good luck. I hope he comes home, silly Maxie.

LOL, as a matter of fact, that silly cat DID come back at 3:50 pm and walked inside when I held the door open. He walked downstairs to the basement and lay down on the floor as if he were exhausted. I couldn't believe that I saw him again in the same day! Now I'm wondering if Maxie will try the same trick again --- run out the door, stay out for a few hours, then return, exhausted.

Oh, I have no doubt that he'll try it again. But like Leo a long time ago, Maxie will never stop trying to get out. I guess he missed the great outdoors, but really had me going. He also ate all of the remaining food in the other cats' dishes before settling down to relax.

I'm really glad he came back, but I'll bet he'll try it again. Try to be extra vigilant when you come and go.

I don't know. I just wish that he'll come back. Maybe he will once everything quiets down. Hopefully, he isn't crossing streets in the meantime.

I am sorry to hear that after all you went through with Maxie that he snuck out. I hope he comes back. Cats will usually come back to the place that feeds them. If he was used to being an outdoor cat you will probaly always have problems getting him to stay inside.

I hope he comes back too. And you're so right! He was probably used to being an outdoor cat. When I first saw him so many weeks ago, I thought that he had already had a home somewhere else. He was so clean and nice looking, but extremely hungry. I fed him then and he was off again, only to return later on that day.

Hopefully sometime he'll realize how good he had it with you and return. Maybe if he doesn't want to live in the house you can at least put out food for him. It's hard when you love them more than they love you.

So true. I guess that all I can do is putting a little extra food out (I'm feeding another stray cat as well) and hope that Maxie returns. I shudder every time I think about him crossing the streets and believe I saved his life by having him in the house, at least for a little while.
