Is there a short-term fix for high gas prices?

The price of crude oil has doubled since June 2007. In late May, the average price of gas nationally was nearly $4 per gallon. Lawmakers and consumers are searching for short-term solutions. What is your solution for the high cost of gas?

Go for it! I've had one over a Year now,and adding up what I'd have paid in taxi fares to work and shopping,I've saved the price of it back already, and then some! (and that's only in dry weather here in Ireland!) I used the bike to commute in the good weather we had here all thru May-I'd filled the car on what would have been my regular 2 weekly fill at the end of April..I didn't fill the car again throughout May,and only went for a fill on Monday (now into June!) I was looking on the Walmart site-they have a couple of models around the $300 mark..lookin good!

campaign to get the government to reduce the amount of duty paid on the fuel when you purchase it currently in the UK a litre of fuel costs £1.25, of this nearly half goes straight to the government as fuel duty

Motorists via fuel and other taxes are one of the Government's most important cash Cows..they're going out of their way to turn off smokers with te public area bans,so that's one area they're going to be losing revenue from...I've only ever seen fuel duty go up in a Budget, never Down! I won't be holding my breath waiting for them to give us a tax break here...

Me,I'm using the car less by using my ebike,(Didn't fill my car in May!) not driving fast when I do,keeping the car dejunked to keep the weight down, taking a look at my tyre pressures..the little things add up..

Lowering demand. I drive less, I'm sure others can, too. Short-term it's doubtful anything really significant can be done. And we won't go as far as beginning to regulate the oil industry that way to regulate the price for them. What can be done? Working on alternatives and bringing them to the market quickly. Pressuring politicians to let money flow into that type of research despite the oil industry's waving of wads of cash so they won't....
