Hi. Today at work, Ambulance showed up 30 minutes after someone called.
One of the client was in the meeting with our sales people, while leaving our office he passed out.
The sales person called her son instead of calling 911.
There was a debate in the office that she should have called the ambulance instead.
What do you think? Call the family or 911?

I think the wisest thing to do is to call 911 first... then family member... a call to 911 can actually save a life... since one is calling trained professionals... while family members might not even know how to deal with this type of emergency...
So i am for calling 911 first... then family members second...

good point 911 are trained to guide you until the paramedics shows up.
I don't even know how the sales lady was able to get a hold of the person's relative number, but she probably was panicking and did not know what to do.
Well she knows now, when this happens again next time she will be experience enough to call 911 first.

911 is the first number, son is second.
If they had dialed 911 first, the ambulance could have been there in 10 - 15 minutes! That was someone not thinking. lol
I hope the client is ok now.

Hi,
Glad to hear he is doing better. We haven't moved yet. lol That's this weekend to Monday. Slowly because I can't do alot of moving heavy stuff. I feel bad about that too, but it is dr's orders.
I'll be sure to tell him that and yes he is doing good.
Thanks for asking

It is best to call 911 first, 911 operators are trained to assist the caller giving medical advice until the ambulance arrives, it would have been better for someone else to call the son.

I agree. When my daughter had a siezure they were able to calm me down enough to answer their question and within minutes they arrived.
But I don't know this time it took them so long to arrive to the office.
But good news the gentlemen is doing fine now.

I would deffinitely say call 911 first and the family right after. That could have been a costly mistake by calling the family first. If one of my family members was to pass out suddenly I think I would want people to call the paramedics first and me next.

Yes, I think it's obvious that the emergency services should be called first. The priority should always be to save the person's life. Telling a family member is not a priority and can always wait, and they would probably be very concerned to know that they were being called in preference to an ambulance.

I agree. ironiclaly the paramedics arrived 30 minutse later and right behind the paramedics was his son.
And later they both got in the paramedics and he was taken to the hospital. We peeped through the windows and he was doing much better, he was able to raise his arms when asked to.
