What do you usually do when you are depressed? I'm sure different people have different ways on dealing with depression. Let me share mine with you.
I don't drink and smoke, and those are unhealthy so here's my list...
1. Sleeping - when everything goes out of hand and there's probably nothing I can do at that time, I'll sleep and try to deal with the thing that causes my depression when I wake up.
2. Singing - singing songs especially those with high pitches, is like screaming your heart out, letting go of any negative energy that you got from depression.
3. Going out with a friend or someone/special - good company takes away a good chunk of depression. It's nice to have someone who listens to you, gives you advices, and reminds you that it's free to laugh or smile.
4. Playing video games - Now this one is for an average gamer like me. I love to play fighting games or games with blood and gore when I'm infuriated or depression. Beating the crap out of something or someone helps me overcome my depression.
5. Basketball - I love basketball although I'm not actually good at it. The sound of hitting a nothing-but-net shot feels good. Basketball is like wine for me. It makes me forget my problem even for just a few minutes or hours. Playing with my friends around also creates a pleasing atmosphere for me.
There you go, I want to know more about how other people deal with it... care to share your thoughts anyone?

before depression kills me. I give up so easily and feel as though I will never beat it. but I realized that that's not the right way to think about it, I realize that if I truly want to make things better in my life then I should set my mind to it and do what it takes. I know it will be so hard at first but the benefits at the end are amazing.
these are some ways that I always do whenever I am so depress.(I hope that these tips will be helpful to others.)
-I really find it helpful to talk to someone about my situation. I always talk to my boyfriend whenever I feel sad and depress. I guess, depress people should talk to someone to whom they can trust and tell them how they feel.I always ask my boyfriend to share his opinions with me and just talk about things. this really helps. he encourage me and cheer me up whenever I feel depress.
-If I am feeling stressed out a lot and as if I have far too much on my plate in my life then I try to identify what things are stressing me out, then I will work on a way to change this, I always think about what I can do to make the load easier. I always think positive, and try to cheer myself. I always say "Fighting!"..that's the word for me to move forward. and sometimes, I just ignore those things that made me depress.
-going out with your friends or special someone. If talking to someone, ease the pain that you are feeling, then why not hang around with them?. I enjoy going to some places with them, specially with my boyfriend. shopping, cook for your love one, walking while eating. food tripping! and anything that helps you forget the depression even for a while.
-why not to cry?.. this really helps! then after I cried, there I will cheer myself. there's nothing wrong in crying. this helps me to ease the pain that I am feeling. then afterwards, I am a lot more better.
and if you think those really can't help:
-There are medications that a doctor can give you that should help make you feel better, sometimes time is a big factor when it comes to overcoming depression and taking medication to get you through the hard time can be a good thing.
I hope that those will help everyone who can fight their depressions..and Smile alot! I am sure no one wants to get old, and have wrinkles because of too much depression.

Here are a few things that helped me before I came out of my major depression:
Sleeping
Also a good cry to get it all out.
Reading self help articles on the internet.
A good meal brings me some comfort
A nice long hot bath
Watching a good show to get my mind off of things.
Talking to someone on the phone that
understands my depression, like my sister.
Hope this helps someone a little.

Hi there Selece..Though i don't entertain the word "depression" in my head that much, i simply call mine my "bouts of downtimes.";)wink. I do have ways to deal with my own downtimes. And i believe they help me pull it through when i go back to my reality.. Here are.. yes, just five of them..( i do have a lot, you know..)LOL .:1. i sweat it out.if i am too lazy to do my regulkar exercises, i Dance like i've never danced before. And of course i do this when i am alone.. LOL.
2. Combine that with SINGing too.When i feel like it.And i do this..again,when i am alone.
3. I LAUGH A LOT. lol. I laugh at my own mistakes and realize they're just the mundane things that i really don't need to be so anxious about. And I remind my self that i am not God.I Am not perfect.I stay in close company with people who share the same kind of laughs with me.I see to it that i find ways to include seeing things around me that makes me smile daily.I never miss out on that.
4. I tinker around things that makes me relax: MUSIC is one of them. I listen to those i love to hear,my favorites. And i give chances to those music that are'nt in my list and welcome them to my favorite list whenever i like them.
5. DRIVE the car on a long road..Alone. with my stereo on. Sing along, to the music playing-- sometimes, to the top of my voice while of course, openning the car window to let out the negative vibes coming from within..
I have countless ways more just to pull it through..I write my thoughts down to my speed limit.I laugh with my children, i play with them.I call my friends on the phone and talk anything under the sun.I'm thankful some of them are there when i do have those downtimes. But most of all, i always start and end my day with a prayer. That completes all else i mentioned.
Have a good day! Thanks.:))

The first thing i think when i feel depressed is in food. I like eat when I feel like that, because eating represents to me energy to solve the problems. Besides, i use to walk around my neighboordhood.

I think sleeping alone works and is the best.
I have found that a good sleep puts depression out of the way.
Or at the least, it won't be as bad.

Usually, I try to step away from the situation for a day or two,. go to a friends house, go to a hotel. Just sit back and figure out what really is wrong withme and why am I so depressed. Usually if I can pinpoint it, I can come up with ways to either fix it or make it a little bit better and more endurable.

Walking is one activity that immediately gives relief. Talking to friends would be the next thing that would help get relief from low moods. I read a very few select books then especially ones by r Burns and Dr Clare Weekes.I also visit some spiritual web sites including www.sripedia.blogspot.com.Last thing being to get in to bed and sleeping, if ever it comes. Even a bit of nap would soar spirits soar up moods.

when I'm depressed or upset or sad, I usually do things like:
street watching - I go out and watch people, vehicles or whatever moves in front of me. Usually I sit in a coffee shop and just watch everything go by then my emotions would slowly calm down or change.
coffee and music - I usually do this at once. music is a big help in times like this. words or lyrics help me overcome whatever pain or whatever's bothering me by taking those words by heart
write - I write what I think and what's being causing me misery. I write it all down. I don't tell it to whoever even to the closest person I have.
eat - not just eat -- feast on food. :D
imagine - or daydreaming. this way, I think of anything but the cause of my pain or my being depressed. I think of beach, happy people, nice experiences, etc..

Hello! Tnx for sharing your lists. We have quite a few things in common. I used to write and write and write... never tell anyone about anything I feel. but then again, I changed a lot. I realized how good it feels to share your thoughts with others. It feels even more better when they sympathize with you or understand you. ^^

Hate to say this, but there are times I'm liking depression. That is just weird I know. But I like it because of several reasons..
- It makes me feel to think about what I should be doing better.
- It makes me to do the things I enjoy doing that I usually have no time of doing.
- Spending time alone, contemplate and meditate, and tries to regain positive energy.
- It kind of makes feel want to eat more than usual which I guess is good.
- And lastly, to think about God, talk to Him more seriously..
And the list goes on.. Depression is not really something we should feel bad about. We should also look the other side of it that will makes feel and think a lot better. Remember, everything has a reason, and there is reason why depression is there for us to feel.. It makes us tougher and stronger as we face things when we are ready.

Now this is something I've been waiting for, your response is very unique. You look at things in a good perspective. That's really great. Sometimes I tend to feel that way too. Because when I am depressed, I can write well... My depression leads to good poems and songs. I figured out it was so hard to write when I'm happy. Hehe. Thanks a lot for your response. I appreciate it. ^^

I get bad bouts sometimes and usually can not get out to be with the few friends I have. To try and keep the blues away I have a few tricks. I replaced every light bulb in my house with the "natural Light" bulbs the act like sunlight. I open my blinds right away in the mornings. I stay away from sad movies if I feel blue spells coming on. I watch America's Funniest Home Videos every night. I write down all of the things I like about me.Hug my kids!!!! They are my greatest joy and they always help me feel better. Then if I'm still feeling down and I can't get out I try to create something. My art has always been a great outlet for me and then when people comment on it I get a high of sorts. Even better if it gets bought.

I am not very mentally healthy when it comes to depression. I cannot really give a top five, but I can describe what I used to do and what I do now.
I used to throw away things. Sometimes it had something to do with what was making me upset, and sometimes I just threw it away because I saw it sitting out. I would feel like an idiot later. I think it was a way of trying to delete things that reminded me of what I was upset over.
Now I try to forget it. If I want it in my life, I will try to repair it. If there is no repairing, I will get rid of it.

The only downside is that when you throw away or delete something, you can't always take it back. Our lives do not have recycle bins that we can restore the things we delete. Then again, making repairs and resolutions is still the best way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. ^^

It all depends what I feel could be causing my depression, if I feel it is because a friend has done or said something to put me in a depressed state then I stay away from people until my mind clears but if it is just an overall feeling for no apparant reason then I go eith go visit a friend or go shopping but I am very good at talking myself out of it these days...

Thank all guys above for good proposals.
When I am in a depression, I alway run so as to make me exhausted. I can vent my depression via this way.
Now actually I have a long bussiness trip.
I feel lonely and depressed. Sometimes I have more free time to consider my future than ever before.
I think future and life goal always bring me confidence and energy.

Here are different type's of reasons you could be depressed.
Relationship:
Just apologize to your partner even if you think it's not your fault. Apologizing is very effective and can give a signal to the partner that you just want all the problems to go away.
Family Issues:
If you are being verbally/physically abused, see a local counciler or get some help from a phone line. If you are afraid your parents might not let you or hit you if you see a counciler, go see one secretly because it will help you deal with your problem and maybe help your parent's get rid of their bad habits.
Stress/Work Related:
Put everything down! It's that simple. Also, take a rest and think about the future, the outcomes and the rewards of doing your job. It will payoff in the future. No need to be sad or mad about it! Just do your job and in the future you will be rewarded!
