Question: Vice Pres Richard Cheney made a joke like this: He found out both his father's and mother's sides had a Cheney. Then he said they didn't even live in West Virginia. That comment drew criticism and later he apologized. He must have referred to some incidents in West Virginia. What is it?http://shiminson.blogspot.com/2008/06/richard-chenys-joke-what-does-it-mean.html

He was being his usual, tasteless, despicable self. He was implying that "inbreeding" is common in West Virginia.
Senator Byrd (W.Va.) said that Cheney's comments were "an insult to all Americans." He also said that Cheney "showed contempt and astounding ignorance toward his own countrymen." (See CNN story).
Cheney is a political dinosaur. Thankfully, he will be out soon.

Thanks for the explanation. It is really such a bad taste comment. All states are parts of America. After office he may be another McLellan, not only making jokes on Bush, but to shift all the blames.

Well said, Cheryl. Certainly is wasn't Cheney's first bit of nonsense. No doubt, it won't be the last.

After he told the joke he went on to say "We can say these things when we're not running for reelection," which to me makes it even worse. He's supposed to ve Vice President of the UNITED STATES but, he said it himself, it's fine to diss an entire state when he doesn't need their votes anymore. What an a$$hole!
