I have been using laptops for last 5~6 years as my work demands. Although, I spend most of my time with laptop I do have desktop as well. But I seldom use it and will find reasons not to use it very often. Laptops do have many additional features and advantages over desktop as it is handy, portable, customizable, personal, fashionable, chargeable and above all presentable.
What do you guys use mostly? Do you agree that laptops are better than desktops or have some other views?

I agree that laptops are both handy and portable but I prefer to use a desktop. The reason is simple, when you buy a desktop it is cheaper than a laptop, if you want to have good hardware. I need a good graphic card and CPU for video and image editing, and to buy a laptop that preforms as good as a desktop is just too expensive.
I think it depends on what you use ur computer for. If it is only to surf and read email, laptop is good. But if you are doing something that require very good hardware in your computer, I would choose a desktop, since they are cheaper than good laptops.

absolutely, costwise desktops are affordable and upgrades are easily possible. And you are right that it also depends on the use. I think I found laptops more convenient for my job.
Thanx dude ... where are ya from? laptops are usually longterm investments so cost higher compare to desktop, isn't it?

Being an IT technician i much prefer desktops.
Don't get me wrong i do love my laptop and its great for taking around with me when i need to do things in places outwith my home but if im at home im using the desktop.
Main reasons i prefer my desktop is that
Upgrading is sooooo simple and cheap for desktops compared to laptops and im always upgrading my hard drives, memory and graphics card etc.
I do alot of website design, graphics and video work aswell which i just love my huge 21" monitor for, and occasionall when i feel the need i attach it to my HDTV lol.
I have much beefier parts in my desktop, much more than laptops can handle at the moment so that i can be doing 10things at once on my desktop, all pretty resource eating stuff with video and graphics etc, so much so that my laptop would never handle doing this, i tend only to use a couple of software programs at a time on the laptop, whereas i would have upto 6 or 7 at a time open on the desktop all doing things at once.
I also love customising my desktop more than i care about my laptop. always buying new cases and moding the cases i get to make the desktop look cooler all the time, also get to play around with all the different cooling methods in my desktop that i could just never do with my laptop.
OK so all in all youve prob heard enough but i love my desktop alot more than my laptop.

I'd love to have a laptop to use because as it is I share our computer with the other three members of my household and sometimes causes problems when I need to be online. Unfortuntely,we live in a very rural area and could not pick up the signals to have a remote connection. Getting a second internet connection also is out of the question right now. I do agree that laptops are better than desktops. I am using my desktop for all my computer activities right now.

I am from a very rural community in Tennessee. I wouldn't move for anything.
The minor inconveniences are a small price to pay, so I will be happy to share
my computer rather than live in the city where I can get the connections.

It depends what you use it for. At this time we only have a desktop at the home. we use it for everything. But because I'm trying to achieve to work as freelancer we're thinking about getting a laptop for me. That way I don't need to use the desktop all the time and DH can use it too. He only plays games so a desktop is just fine for him. A laptop I can take with me and I can work anywhere I want.

i'm using a laptop right now and i agree with what you've said. but for me, i prefer using a desktop if i'm gonna be using it for long hours lol the advantage of desktop is that you can change or upgrade any parts of it whenever you like it but the disadvantage of this was it takes more space rather than the laptop. one thing that i hate about laptops is that if i wanna upgrade something in it, it only depends if it can be upgraded or not. i'm not that sure if the processor of the laptop can be changed though

it depends on the budget and where are you going to use it.
desktop pcs are way cheaper than laptops, you can buy cheaper pheriperals for it. you can replace its parts with no problem with the price or the availabity of the item. if you are a gamer, desktop pc are probably for you...
now, for laptops, yes i agree with you regarding the advantages ;)

it is really good to but a things that you feel comfortable and satisfied. but as long as the budget is concern, those people who cant but even the cheapest laptop in the market, desktop pc is still the solution, yes, of course this is not applicable if you use your pc for presentations and have to bring it to places from places. athough, if you have own wheels, you could hehe.
cheapest laptops here in our country are worth Php21,000, the smallest(notebook) is about Php15,000.
cheapest desktop pcs is are around Php13,000 to Php15,000.
my comment isnt a recommendation, i am just explaning my point of view. so whatever your choices are. it would be okay as long as you know how to use computer 100%
peace ;)

I only have a desktop, but I am saving for the laptop, and once I get the wireless set up so it is safe, then I will do most of my writing on my laptop. My older son has a laptop and it is easy to work on it in the living room while keeping an eye on the baby. For me, it is the mobility and also the quiet. My husband listens to audio on his computer and when I am working on my novel or even at myLot, I need silence. So for that way, i prefer a laptop.

You are correct about laptops , i hat desktops, though i have desktop only, and no laptop..
I just worked once or twice on laptops, and since then i love them due to their portability and many other features!

I think both kinds of machines have their pros and cons.
I don't own any laptop personally though I would not rule out the possibility of getting one in future.
For a start, I like the mobility laptops provide. With a laptop, I can do my computer activities pretty much anywhere.
But I don't like the keyboard and the trackpad/ball/etc. They are so limited. Of course, I can easily attach an external keyboard and mouse but those things together will end up occupying much more space than a mere desktop.
For now, I am sticking to my desktop till it expires (I think is soon, sigh).

it depend on what you have to do with it, let compare it by using excel you have to use a lot of number, can you make it easy on the laptop, you can if you use another keyboard, i real hate to jump my finger to press between number 1 and 0, but it depend on the user i guess which is more suitable to use.

... hmm pressing number on laptop sometimes a real headache, but once get used to it and with proper typing style (using all the 10 fingers) this should not be a problem. Even in the type writers the number are at the top rather than at side.
nways, thanx for the response ... u certainly are correct in your version.

as much as i like laptops for all the reasons you stated, i actually prefer desktops over laptops. the problem with laptops is they are not really upgradeable. yeah you can upgrade the ram when you buy it, and thats fine and good. but the problem is you cant really upgrade anything else in a laptop. what you buy is what you get. Now with a desktop, they are fully upgradeable. so if you need to replace the ram you can do it without taking it to someone to do it for you. if you want to upgrade the video card...beautiful cause its super simple to do. and if you don't know how to do it most people have a friend that does and is willing to do it free if you provide the part. so i do like the portability of a laptop, and i do want one. but i like the upgradeable capabilities of a desktop. it suits me better.

that is a nice point...I forgot about this aspect about desktop.
For me, what I like with laptops mainly is its mobility while with desktops is more custom able.

I agree, you can really make your laptop YOURS.But in my opinion, dekstop is better than laptop.Buying a good desktop is easier and cheaper than buying a good laptop. When buying a laptop,we need to consider the hardware, the size, the weigh, the battery life and maybe the colour.
So,desktop is cheaper/usually more powerful,
while laptop can be used anywhere/cam ne powerful than dekstop but expensive..
i prefer dekstop

... yes it is your choice as per your requirement and affordability ... when you buy it you should consider how much you can benefit from it and can make use of it optimally ... not just cause its a fashion or trend and your friends have it so you also need.
Thanx

hey there,
my family and i are owners of a laptop and a desktop too. but we dont use the desktop all the time. i do agree that the laptop is a much easier to use because its portable. i could just bring it anywhere and use it anytime i want. i could be out with friends and then need to do work for a while so i could just get my laptop from the car and type right then and there. i dont suggest a laptop for heavy duty gaming though. lol. a friend of mine suggested that when playing or installing games the desktop is much better to use. but with anything else that is involved with work, or lessons, notes, planning and etc and your always moving around, a laptop is best to use.

I agree, I love laptop because it's convenient, affordable, and easy to carry. I also have a desktop which I rarely use after I have laptop. I can't carry my desktop wherever I want, and my desktop makes noise every time I turn it on. I am very disappoint with my desktop. I like laptop more than desktop.

Laptop may have some advantages over desktops but it depends on what you need the computer for...for example if your a business man or a school student and ur always on the go then yeah a laptop may help you more...but if youre a gamer then you may need a desktop specially since your always changing you hardware...which is cheaper to do in a desktop than a laptop
