How do you start to discussion/chat/talk with a person?

How would start a discussion / chat/ talk with a person that you do not know? "hi, how are you.", expect it what would you say?

mostof it i started saying " hi" to them in real or chating.

Oh most people start with "hi" , sometime i also will start that way.

for me "hi"is a normal and simple way of a greetings thanks to you.

Hmm...sometime i will start with that too. Firs start with greeting then introduce my name.

Usually i start with greeting. Sometimes i start with something related to the guy's name or his appearance or something else. I seldom start with weather coz i don't think it is interesting enough to be a beginning of a talk.Actually, i think the basic thing in starting a chat is to act naturally and be yourself.

Sometime I meet someone who start with weather, that really not attract me. I think start with something related to the guy's name will make people felt like we not so strange with him, that is a good idea.
