the rattling sound of firm plastic bags is a guarantee to get my cats out of hiding. Their treats are in these plastic satchets that are pretty thick. They don't give a hoot if it's those thin plastic bags. But once they hear me touching a satchets they come flying. I'm not joking about the touching part. Their ears are that good.

Any sound in the kitchen that is associated with the preparation of food. This includes the sound of dishes coming out of the cupboard, the fridge door opening and closing and the sound of the hot air popcorn machine.

my cat just like your cat. she will be running and hide under the table or even inside cupboard if she heard about very loud sounds of thunder and you know, she is not only run but her hairs become straightly i wonder, why cats become like that when they heard about thunder? do you have any idea?

Well as for thunder mine really don't do anything so I guess it doesn't bother them or maybe they think they nee to be brave because they know I'm afraid of storms. My 3 dogs come running when they hear plastic bag noises because they think it is a treat or some kind of food. The littlest one is the worst. lol

Hi I use to have a big black purebred persian that when you rattled the cat food bag him and all the females would come running. He passed away sadly about 4 years ago and now the females (3 of them) do not do that any more. I don't know why they stopped, they all seem happy enough. I guess maybe they thought he would eat it all. Now I just leave the food out and they eat when they are hungry. ceciliah

If my dog feels like a storm is coming she will lay on the bed with me. She feels like she is protecting me from it. When I shake a peanut can my dog comes running and I give her a treat. My friends dog actually knows when its 7pm. She gets a treat every night at this time. Its kind of funnny.

If Sherlock hears the microwave door open, he'll come running to see what is coming out and if it looks like any of it is for him. He also comes running when he hears my bedroom door open, because he isn't allowed in there except when I'm in there. He really wants to have access all the time.

Maybe the sound of the door opening. They always know who goes in and out the door.My dogs would bark cheerfully when I show them a sign of me.As for my cat,he got lost a long time ago and it makes me sad remembering our times together. He's such a darling and now he's gone.

Hi cher913 My cats also like the noise when I rattle the bag of dry food. When my cats hear the trash truck, the mowing of the lawn, they will hide and won't come out untill the noise is gone. At night when I need to bring them in, I get a pouch of wet food and shake it and most of the time they will come in.

My dog has a keen sense of something being moved around in the kitchen. It could be the microwave, the refrigerator, the stove or any movement at all and she will come running all the way from the other room.

I had a cat that would come running whenever she heard the electric can opener. When we went on vacation, we had a mechanical can opener. She soon learned the sound of that one too. We always had to show here that she wasn't interested in what was in the can (works for olives, not so much for tuna fish).

My mama cat, Miss Kitty when ever she wants catnip or treats she comes n scratches the glass on the book shelf. She know exactly where it is. For some reason she chews holes in plastic bags. I have to keep them hidden from her. If i come in from a store with plastic bags i have to take it out right away. or it gets chewed right through to the item which may also get chewed.

My cats are just lazy but as soon as they hear the container for the food being moved around or opened they are there wanting it.

If I start the water running and have the bathroom door open, my dogs magically disappear. lol They are real sensitive to the can opener as well...cus can opener = food to them.

The sound of the cat food can being popped open brings them running every time. It's amazing, they can be on the third floor when somebody opens cat food in the kitchen and down they run. One of the cats is also afraid of thunder and hides whenever there is a thunder storm and they all run if somebody turns on a vacuum cleaner.

I think each animal has some special sound that gets their attention. I had a cat years ago that would disappear under the bed at the first sign of thunder. I had another cat we loved potato chip bags. If we came in the door with a bunch of grocery bags. He always knew which bag had the chips.

cher_ Okay, this is weird. Remember that jingle for meow mix cat food? Meow was repeated over and over in a sing song manner. My cat came running everytime I sang that goofy song.

I used to have a cat that would react to the sound of a plastic bag. If you needed to put a new garbage bag in the bin miss Nosey would be there. If you got home with your shopping in a plastic bag miss Nosey would be there. Anything in a plastic bag would be of huge interest. The reason, of course, was quite simple. You see I'd put a plastic sandwich bag over her cat food to keep it in the fridge. So she associated the sound of plastic with getting something nice to eat.
