Do you Log on/off to all your sites, including MyLot? Or do you keep them open?

I am finding I am participating in MyLot more each day. I also do alot of other things online in other windows and such. Everything requires a log on/off. If you don't log off, you are on 24/7. Is that a problem in anyway - to remain logged on to a site and not even have your PC turned on?
With recent discussion about how many internet windows and tabs one has open at once .. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1539137.aspx
with so much going on, I'd guess one doesn't log in and out all day long, but how often do you basically log in/off the main sites you use daily? D
o you stay logged onto MyLot all day so when you check back, you are already there and don't have to go through the log in procedure? I have been finding I get really annoyed at having to log in every time I go anywhere on the internet, but understand the reason. Is keeping things open a problem in anyway?

I usually keep them open instead of having to login everyday. My computer is in my own home I could see if you were working in an office that others had access to the computer then I would log off but since it is in my home I just stayed logged in.

Well since I am always doing everything I can to cut expenses, I shut down at night to save electric. Doesn't sound like much but put it all together with everything else and it all adds up at the end of the month.
But the other reason, I had heard something about hackers getting into your system and accounts and being able to get your passwords etc. Don't know how accurate that is, but it is a concern

I keep my puter on 24/7 when I'm home usually I keep my gmail opened as a tab and it alerts me to new mylot activity as it happens! I'll keep another mylot open to my main page, I leave it open and refresh it that's faster, to keep me current on new disscussions! the other I keep open I'll use for my yahoo mail and my normal home page. I'm on cable in Mexico and it's fast! Hope this made scense? Thanks! tdemex

Makes total sense. I've just heard things about being more accessible to hackers if on all the time. don't know how accurate that is... but....

In my case I always left my profile log on but everyday or as much as possible I always clear the history and cookies of my pc.. just to clean up or to log off all the accounts from different sites that I left on. I don't know if there is an advantage of letting your profile on like if someone might get an access to it. But I do prefer to clear the cookies just to be safe.
For me, logging off has its disadvantages like if I remain on for like a week or a month and not clear my history and cookies I might forget my password.

I clear cookies and temp files all the time during the day with my GPT activity. Guess maybe I am over thinking things again!

Sure I do.
I like to log off all sites because it gives a closure to things. It is also for security reason.
Sometimes I don't but it is not a biggie really because when I close my browsers, all cookies whatsoever are wiped.
Then I used ccleaner and delete anything that dares to linger behind lol.
So yes, I axe everything when I am done.

I do at the end of the day. I am trying to find ways to multi task during the day! From this discussion, learned I was asking the right question using the wrong words - and learned that I can run Firefox at the same time as IE and get double the things done! Just have to watch where I have what!

That is my thinking too. It is only me on this PC, but still hackers can go probably anywhere they want to!

I dont log out of anything at all. I check all sites daily mainly cause I never know that I will find when and I would rather be already logged in than take the time to actually log in.

Unless you are working with a bank or PayPal, or eBay, etc., where you are handling serious money in real time, I don't see any reason to log off, or maybe if you have your payout amount here set to $100 instead of the minimum. If the computer is in a secure area and protected with a good firewall, etc., then the only reason I can think of to ever log out would be if another family member or friend wanted to check his or her account and you would have to log out so they could log in. In a public library, then, yes you at better log off!
Here, if someone hacked your firewall the worst they could do would be to change your password so you couldn't get back in, but if they put their own PayPal account in to take your earnings, that would leave a trail of where the money went that would lead straight to the thief. Theoretically they could post disruptive comments or nasty pictures using your username, but I'm sure myLot would take them down as soon as it was reported.
The only thing to note is that most sites will automatically log you off periodically, say every two weeks, so you do have to check periodically to make sure you are still logged in. Here on myLot I have often though I was logged in and found out after typing in a long reply that that was not the case. I'm learning to glance at the earnings as if they are not showing, then I'm not logged in. :-)

Yeah, guess I"m rather safe, no more than I do. Just in reading the responses to my discusson about how many windows/tabs one had open at once, and have to log in and out and just what little I do, I get so tired of logging in/out all the time, several times a day sometimes! Thought there might be an easier and faster way!

Nobody else has access to my computer so I leave myself logged in. I don't see any harm in it and nothing bad has ever happened. I hate to log in everytime anyway, it's just called being lazy. LOL

I never have to log in to myLot because I never log off!
I am the only person who uses my laptop and I usually enter myLot from a link in an email notifying me of a friend's new discussion, a response to my discussion, or a comment added to my response.
I don't clear my cookies so myLot always knows me when I open the site. I am here too many times in a day to keep logging in and off. I only do that with banking sites and other ones which hold personal information about me.

I"m off and on all day - I don't shut down completely unless I leave the house and at night. More for safety and not waste electric than anything else. I also heard about hackers being able to acess you if you dont log off accounts. Not sure the validity of that, but gotta be careful these days....

keeping things open all the time shouldn't be a problem unless it's a secure site like credit cards, banks, etc. but those sites uaually log you out automatically after a few minutes of no activities.
with email sites (hotmail, uahoo, etc) i usually log out, and the only reason is in case i need to bring my computer to a repair shop or one of my guests wants to use my computer, they won't have access to my private emails.
i never log out of mylot. there's nothing here on mylot that's a big secret that i wouldn't want anybody else to read. so for convenience i just leave it on.

I try to log off certain sites like myLot etc when I am about to turn the computer of at night. Some I always log off directly after using, like my hotmail, because I know it is easy to get into an open account for someone who is trying outside of your computer.

I had heard about leaving things open makes them more available to hackers and such, which was the other reason I log off all the time on many sites, and everything at night when I shut down.

I don't. I leave all my online accounts open when I close my windows. It's not that I would probably forget my password but it's just time consuming when log in that day then log out then log in again the next day. And besides, there's nobody using my computer other than me. hehehe.. so no worried of intruding my online accounts.

With Logging Out, an account holder of a site can keep their privacy. If you are the only user and surfing from home it does not matter whether you directly close the I.E. or Log out. But, when you are at a cyber cafe it's necessary to sign out and take care not to let the computer to remember the password. If you don't someone else may do wrong things with your account. Most of people know this.....

I'm not to that spot yet - cyber cafes and such. I'm just at home and it is just me. I am only concerned that I have heard something about if you don't log out, you are more accessible to hackers...but not sure the seriousness of that....

For me it really depends on what I have going on that day. If my house is clean and the kids are content I can sit here at the computer a little longer then normal...and when I do that I usually have tabs open all the way across the screen LOL. I own a business of my own so I work on that, work on this for awhile and do some other things. I get bored with doing one thing consistently. I would never get anything done if I tried that.

I tend to log off. It doesn't really take that long to log on and check. It can be a bit of a problem here. We have 3 people wanting to use our computers. Our daughter is nearly 5. She knows where her programs are.It is just easier not to have things open. Then she can start her educational programs the way dad showed her without panic.

I usually prefer logging in and logging out while using any site instead of being logged in 24 hours because I use such sites rarely. I use mylot too quite rarely.

I will keep it open for I hate haveing to log in all the time. I do have my user name and pass words for all the sites I go to just encase there ever was a problem and I needed to reenter that infomation to get back into the site. I don't find it a problem w/ leaving my windows open for a site.

for some websites i regularly check, i let it open, but if it contains any confidential information, i'd better log off and login again if i need it, since i heard that if we let our account always open, it can give a chance to be hacked, i don't know if it's true or not, but it would be better to be more careful :)
