Play a game and feed a hungry person. Would you do it?

I just found a site online that says they will donate rice to hungry people in disadvantaged countries, if you will play a word game. They show a word and you try to guess the meaning. Of course, you could just look up the word in the dictionary. And, everytime you get a word right, they tell you how much rice they will donate in your honor. Here's the link if you're interested in checking it out for yourself. http://www.freerice.com/index.php Has anyone heard of this site? Do you know if it's legitimate? Is it for real? Do they really donate to help hungry kids? Just wondering.

I have seen television shows with people who are benefitting from this site. It is a very positive thing that people can do, and have fun as well.

yes it is for real. I first heard about it on network television and more recently I saw a show where they actually showed a school that was using the feeding progrm. I like this site, and I like the word game. I have made it to the highest level at least once. I have had two discussions about this site, and one about six other charities as well. By having discussions about it, and by posting the link we keep donations alive and coming in to feed hungry people.

Hi GardenGetty! I am so happy to hear that it is a legitimate site. When I found it by random chance this morning, it seemed almost too good to be true. I played some and it was amazing the feeling that I got, knowing that my participation really helped out others. I hope that others will follow your lead and keep the site alive.

I love that site. I haven't played it in awhile because I've been busy but I know it is legit because they have paired with a few human interest groups to make the program work. The people that started the site have actually been interviewed for several sources and explain exactly how it works. I can't remember the most recent interview or I would link it.

Honey I use this site a lot and as far as I can tell it is perfectly legitimate. I used to be there several times a day but I have lapsed lately and I am glad that you have reminded as I think it is a wonderful site! xxx

I don't know if it is real or not. It would be nice to think so. A way to learn and help others. What a lovely idea. I'll have to take a look.

Well, I would wonder how efficient it is as a use of time.

I have played the game a few times, but it's been a long time. I really like it that you really are helping someone, while learning new words. Some of the words on the game are really easy, and others are really hard, or at least they are to me.

ive played on this site before. a friend of mine introduced me to this site a long time ago and i got hooked on it. i find it really fun and educational because of the vocabluary multiple choices, plus you would be helping other people from different countries. i think the site is real because my friend also gave me a link from bbc with a picture in it that they have given rice to different countries. so it probably is legit :)

Thank you for this information! I was born in a third world country and since I live in the United States, I've never forgotten where I came from. Even today when I cook with rice, I make sure ever single grain gets into the cooker. If I have to throw any of it away, I feel so guilty. My guilt got worse when I heard about how some food banks aren't going to give the school children their portion of rice for breakfast because the prices are so high.

How many grains do you think it takes to fill up one hungry person? I made it to 160 grains and got bored it's too easy(no I wasn't googling them either). Do you think it would fill a child?
