Another young life lost, failed by police, and stabbed to death.

I have subscribed recently to an online newspaper hence my discussions based around news events. Sometimes I wish I had not bothered because everything I am reading is just so sad and tragic. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/justice/article1239221.ece This pretty young girl was recently discovered stabbed to death in the lift of the block of flats where she lived. Another knife crime and tragic death of a 16 year old girl, making the total of youngsters killed this year through knife crime in UK, 16. I am terrified of the fact that there are so many fatal stabbings being carried out, it seems that no one is bothered about taking a knife to someone else and stabbing them to death. Especially with our youngsters, what on earth is happening to them? Why do they seem to have no qualms about stabbing someone to death? Slowly it began to emerge that the person that took this girls life was actually considerably older than her and had in fact been stalking her, her family had even reported him to police so concerned were they with his behaviour towards their daughter and what did the police do? Nothing. Mr Tesfaghiorgish a friend said: "I didn’t know him but he had been harassing her. The mother told the police a number of times. "The police said they couldn’t take any action. What they want is, after things happen, they want to know." "We are going to complain about this. He beat her and threatened to kill her," he said. Why is it, that with the way this world is today, stalking and threats are still not taken seriously by the police? How come they always have to wait until someone dies before they will actually take action?

Unfortunately it's like that all over the world. Here in the US the most they'd do is put out a restraining order against the stalker which claims they cannot go within X amount of feet of that person (like 50 or so) or their house or place of work, they also cannot phone them, etc etc. It really depends on the issues and what the victim sets forward. The problem is there is nothing but a piece of paper enforcing the restraining order. Something will only be done if the person violates the order, and chances are by the time they violate the order, it's too late. I've seen it happen most often with girls who are afraid their ex boyfriends will beat them up. This one girl I knew did have a restraining order against her ex, but he came and beat her up and left her in the hospital for over a week, then fled the state, so the police never found him.

I know it is, sometimes seeing it all seems to affect me more than other times. I just find it all so horrifying, I guess that there is only so much the police can do but it always seems that they could just do a little bit more.

Yes, they should do more, especially when there's a complaint like that. I know that not all complaints or leads are valid, and following up on each one wastes tax payer's money and the police's time... but if they only took the time to get a name and run it through the database to get some information or something, some of this could be prevented.

That is one of the reasons now a days that I don't like reading the news sometimes. There are things going on in other countries that is so sad to the point that you would rather not know. Then sometimes the news is limited in the information that you get to the point that when the raw stuff comes at you. You just want to ignore it when it's read. I have found more news sites here on the net than the offer on tv and satellite. Then there are things that you would not know if there were not places like My Lots. So to a degree news is good and then sometimes it can be bad.

The police are not to blame. If they could do what they wished, i.e. get the stalker, it would be a police state and I do not think you want to be living in such a place. You also have to consider the emotional ranters who threaten people without planning to do anything about it, who are full of hot air. In order for you get stalkers arrested before they have done everything, you have to give the police extensive powers so on any threat or even a mild "I will get you," or even someone seeming to follow a girl, will be arrested. And you have to consider that the stalker was careful to make sure no one saw him beat up the girl. They need evidence, not just the parents but non relatives who will witness the event. They also need witnesses may have heard this person not only threaten the girl but also beat her up. The parents should have taken it to civil court. The proceedings are often recorded and given to the criminal courts so they can take the proper action.

Thanks for your response, I do not think that it works like that here in UK I do not think that we can take stalkers to court. Not sure though on that without looking into it, the police are admitting that they knew about the stalking complaints but now the girl has been murdered it will be investigated fully.

Why on earth did the police not act when the parents complained to them about this jerk, this monster?why wait until its too late? this just does not make sense to me. The law should protect the injured not the stabber. another young life wasted because police did not arrest her stalked. this is incredible.

Hi gemini. That's a sad story indeed, i do believe the police has to take stalking more seriously. This sort of crime is getting out of hand, and always lead to a dangerous conclussion. It's sad to know that a young woman has fallen victim, her life cut short because of the desires of some sicko. It's scary to know that this can happen anywhere and to anyone of us.This is even a problem in my country, i can only hope that the police get it together and treat these sort of crimes with the severity that they deserve, before god forbids another person looses their life.

In my country, the police do take action, but then, they will just put blame on anyone just to make the justice seekers happy. Recently a bank robbery happened wherein the robbers shot 10 poor victims in the head. The victim's relatives cried for justice, so the police stalked for and shoot anyone who's been "known" to be involved in robberies; without even making sure that those whom they killed are directly involved in the current bank robbery in question.

That was a horrible robbery and it is horrible what the police are doing. It sometimes seems that no one really knows what to do to solve things in a different way.

something is very wrong there, the laws have got to be changed it is absolutely horrible. There is so much teen violence in canada now that they are getting much stricter with the laws.

I'm wondering why the police didn't do more when she and her parents complained about the man harassing and stalking her...she might still be alive if they did. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

From what you report here, I would have expected the things he is reported to have done would be enough to get a restraining order or something against him.
