You are asked to be a bridesmaid and you don't like the dress...

When a lady is asked to be a bridesmaid, she accepts the request as an honour. If she however does not particularly like the dress, she ought to keep this to herself. The bride is already nervous and stressed over many details concerning the wedding, don't add negativity. After all, she asked her friends to be part of the wedding party because of some kindred spirit she felt towards them. But, have you ever been in this position where you didn't like the dress or the colour of the wedding? If so, what did you do and what were the results?

Yes, that very thing did happen to me.. I was 'best lady' but I didn't like the white suit I wore.. actually, I liked it, but it didn't look all that good on me.. But! I never said anything of course.. after all it wasn't "all about me"! And boy, was she ever stressed over other details!

Hey, as long as she liked it, right? Although, I wonder if there's ever a bride out there who purposely put her ladies in the most hideous of dresses just to see if they will still be her friends after the wedding...

My experience wasn't that I didn't like the dress...it was gorgeous...I didn't like the price tag. I had to pay $200 for my bridesmaids dress. I thought it was a wee bit pricey, but bit the bullet and bought it because she was my friend.

Ouch...that was indeed expensive. When I had my wedding, I gave my ladies the colour scheme and told them to pick out their own dresses since they had different tastest and budgets. I found that worked out the best. Each lady had a different dress, but they had taste and it complimented the wedding party.

Years ago I was asked to be a bridesmaide but at the time knowing that I never wear green she told me the colour was lime green, well I did say no at the time as not only did I think green was an unlucky colour and I would never wear it, I was also a very shy person and never thought I could handle it, but after months of begging I did give in, I did wear the green dress ....

It was very nice of you to have kept your mouth shut. You spared the bride and I'll bet you looked beautiful, didn't you?

I didn't say anything. I figured the outfit matched what the bride had one and I wasn't about to say to much about it. I just dealt with it.

You did the right thing...however, I would have been tempted to have made some kind of gentle comment...but that's just me talking. I'm sure if I was ever to be in the position for real, I'd keep my mouth shut too.
