Do you have a garden?

We wanted one this year, but time constraints, weather and a mufflerless rototiller kind of killed that. I still might go out and dig up some dirt by hand and plant a couple of things. I just want some melons so I don't have to pay over $4 for the dang things.

Hi , I wanted a veggie/fruit gardnen this year , but the weather was so tricky up util a few weeks ago . i still would have to figure out where to start it outside. I saw at home depot a starter kit , where you start it in your house and then take it outside . I agree melons are a bit too much money . I have had a watermelon for about 2 weeks now . Got a full one on sale for $4.99 , but the price is now on the rise.
I did however this year plant some flowers you buy at that store, no seeds. The only seeds I bought were sunflower seeds to put out by my fence and pool . Let hope they grow !
By the way the only thing i dont like about planting is all the weeds, it makes me crazy . So much time spend pulling and treating them.

That is why it is good to have kids. Get them started young and they will come to love it. My son loves to help out when he is allowed. We have had snarky weather here too, so I know fully what you are talking about. Just last week it was 30s and 40s, now it is 80s and 90s. Talk about a total flip around!

LOL. I tried numerous times. Something always eats whatever it is that I'm trying to grow - tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, even my beloved orange tree. I finally just gave up on it and figured it just isn't my calling. I could probably try herbs since I have a pretty large plant window.

I hear that planting garlic around the base of a plant will keep bugs away. I also heard that spraying a certain mixture of coca cola on it will kill bugs, as well as a soap solution.
Just some ideas for you.

We used to have a garden every year. Problem with now though is that we haven't a way to till the ground to get a garden started. The last time we trusted someone else they barely nicked th etop of the ground. So now I'm not even sure if we'll get a garden in this year.

That sounds lovely. I can't read outside. I have tried, but I get so caught up in the day. Watching the clouds, trees swaying, bees pollinating and all that.

I will have one next year for sure. My baby will be 2 and old enough to be out walking instead of crawling. We have a dog and its master (hubby) doesn't clean up too often, so this year is a miss.

That is not true. You can have what is called a container garden. All seeds need is dirt, water and sun. They can get that in a pot. I have young kids though, so they would not survive if I had them in the house. Pity really, because fresh food in the winter would be nice. Especially salad veggies.
