MOZILLA FIREFOX instead of INTERNET EXPLORER

I've been using Mozilla as my web browser for 7 years now and I was shocked to learn that the majority of people still use Internet Explorer. Is it an educational thing, fear of the unknown or what? Mozilla is faster, cleaner and has a lovely Orange Icon for the asthetically inclined! Why have you not changed to Mozilla Firefox - do you have shares in Microsoft or something? If you want to give Mozilla a go as your web browser -don't be afraid. It's free as well. Click on this http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ Download it. It will put that Orange and Blue icon on your desktop and you can start using it straight away. Compare the difference, it will do no harm to your computer. What do you use?

Been using Mozilla for almost two years now and I feel quite awkward when I used Internet Explorer even if I have the latest IE7 installed. Find Mozilla a lot faster and enhances the tabbed browsing experience. Although IE also has tabbed browsing now, it is still not the same. Go Mozilla!

I think a lot of people don't realise they can have more than one browser. I think a lot of people think of IE as an OS. I use Firefox but I still us Outlook Express for a mail account with my ISP and I also use Hotmail. I've often wondered if I can actually get rid of IE off my PC all together? I've had lots of issues with it lately and it's running super slowly these days.

I have all those things you mentioned and I can relate cos I too am a Holden girl...lol. And I drive an Astra. I won't be deleting IE because I read somewhere that much of the Windows operating system needs IE to run some programs and add-ons. I've been very busy running all my scans more often lately and things have vastly improved. I'm rarely using hotmail now. Spybot S&D is picking up heaps of crap lately.

We need people like Darkdancer to put you ahead of your mother! Hats off to your mother for using Firefox too. One thing I've come to know, most computer techies love to help people with their problems. I had to get used to Firefox when I first got it, but it didn't take too long. It's just becoming familiar with things and off you go. You can then join the elite!

Internet Explorer is the default browser for Microsoft Windows so that's why most people use it. And most people are not brave enough to venture out of Microsoft to see there are other products available that are really very good. When it comes to computers I like FAST and that applies especially to the browser.

I'm actually using Internet Explorer at the moment and hating it. It always glitches and freezes on me which is very annoying. I really miss my Firefox. The ability to open multiple tabs in one window is something I am desperately missing right now. I did something a while back (I can't remember what though) on my laptop and now Firefox won't work properly on it. I have to re-format it but it's going to take me a while to clear out all of my stuff.

I'll send good vibes to your computer, maybe that will help get it back on track. In the meantime don't panic! LOL. So are you telling me IE doesn't have multiple tab function? What the......... Dark ages.

Yeah, it is horrible. I have to open up several different windows if I want to multi-surf. This would then lead to IE spazzing and freezing up. Thanks for the good vibes...I'm going to need them.

Firefox user here. Ever since I switched from IE to Firefox, I never went back to use IE anymore. Bye bye. Reasons why more people still use IE is I think it's because IE is pre-installed on a Windows OS and that most people just use it instead of downloading another browser. Good thing to know that linux distros has firefox on it.

You are so right, it is because it's pre-installed and that's just allowing people to have an inferior product because the public don't know any different. Monopolies lead to ignorance and sleepers. Hopefully discussions like these inform and educate.

I use Opera. I'm still shocked that people use Firefox... Opera is much faster than Firefox, especially if you have limited RAM on your computer. Unfortunately, there are still website applications that require Firefox/Netscape or Explorer to use, so I have them on my computers are options. It's become increasingly rare that I have to use them, though. Maybe once/year for Explorer, and Firefox when I have to access my college off-campus (because I haven't tried to figure out if I can set up the proxy server through Opera yet). Firefox is much better than Explorer, though. No one should use Explorer ever, it's like an open invitation to have your computer infested with all kinds of bugs.

I think on principle I wouldn't use the application if it didn't open up in a different browser to IE. I hate being pushed into a corner and forced to use something when there could be an alternative. I don't like monopolies.

if all the computer in use around the world were at private homes I believe that Firefox would already have the lead. But that is not the case. Many are the companies, organization and institutions that don't allow freeware on their computers. This has to due with security issues specific to them. Nevertheless we can keep on spreading the word for the nicest browsers around. I am a Firefox user for I don't know how long, and before that Netscape. I can only hope that all companies around the world do the extra effort to make their websites viewable by all browsers, as still today there are many that set the websites to be viewed exclusively with IE

I have been using it probably almost as long as you. I first had experience with it when i was using linux since it has no IE. I really liked it even in its early 1.0/5 stages. It has just kept getting better and better. I love how easily it can be skinned the addons are great. I will never go back to IE and i wish more people would start using firefox.

I wish they'd use it too. I was really surprised to learn how low the usage is and that's because IE is the default browser for MS windows - I've no doubt that's the reason. One way of fixing the problem is helping people change over, not just telling them but helping them do it. People aren't brave enough cause they think it will mess up their machine, which we know doesn't happen! I feel like I'm an evangelist spreading the fox word!

I agree. If it didn't come with windows automatically installed i don't think it would have much usage as it does but since its built right into windows most just use it automatically and don't realize there are better options out there then IE.

Well, Windows comes with IE preset... so many people can't be bothered to change. Some people don't want to use firefox, and prefer IE. Some people use the internet and don't understand what a browser actually is... Some people don't use the internet for anything other than youtube so they don't change. Some people can't see the differences. I think firefox should be mandatory. It is soo much better than IE. It actually renders images faster, even though it downloads files at pretty much the same speed. Something else: I've noticed that with firefox I download 60KB/s on a normal file. On IE it downloads at 43KB/s. Probably is uploading to microsoft what I'm doing or something. Wouldn't put it past them.

I'm with you, the Fox first. We are in an age where allot of new technology happened in a very short time and there are several generations struggling to keep up. To many, catching up is just not going to happen. MS is taking advantage of the ignorant, I've no doubt about that.

i like IE better (been useing since like 7), but i have got firefox due to IE wont download over 2-3gb files (which sucks) but anyway i dont dislike firefox its good and i would say have it along side IE

I have been using Mizilla Firefox since I got my first laptop in '04. I will never use internet explorer again. I absoluely love Firefox. I can't get the print big enough in IE, and Fireox is so much easier to manage. I love it! Now I've got my husband using it too, and he loves it.

Hi Tetchie, I prefer not to use Internet Explorer if I can avoid it, but some applications and web sites DO work better with Internet Explorer than Firefox. And to add a note of practicality, in my experience Firefox is a capable browser, but has also exhibited a similar trait to Internet Explorer in one respect, namely becoming bloated and increasingly lethargic with each new release. There are a few other alternative browsers to both Internet Explorer and Firefox, such as Opera and Crazy Browser, for example. I find it's as well to have all of the better browsers installed and at the ready, to allow selection of the most suitable tool for the job at hand.

I'll take note of the speed of Firefox, apparently there is a new release due this month. I like your attitude, some surfaces need different brooms to be effective.

I use Mozilla. Nothing comes in comparison with it. I like the tabbed browsing and its restoring features. Many times my computer goes off and when I restart I am relieved to have my pages okay. And of course it has a pretty page. Thanks.

I've been using Internet Explorer for about 7 years. I have never found it at fault. Why should anyone use anything else? Whats the Firefox got thats is so wonderful? I can't understand why Yahoo would allow Explorer to be upstaged? I doubt that many people use Firefox. I've heard of it before but never thought it a worthwhile change. Could I use it and Explorer also?

I believe that the reason of many people using Internet Explorer is, IE still the default browser of Windows. Any newbie that go to internet will use IE, cause they still don't know the problem of IE and the advantage of Firefox. To help them, we must tell them to use Firefox. It's our job now, to make FireFox the large use browser in the world!

MS dominance is not a healthy state of affairs. Best we spread the Firefox word to even things up a bit!
