I feel the same way to a point. I love birds, but do not believe they are meant to be in captivity. However, domesticated cats and dogs do not do well in the wild, and are better off with someone to care for them. I recently separated from my husband and left behind 2 dogs and 2 cats. I live in an apartment now, and life is very quiet without someone to talk to! Pets are very good company :)

yeah i always had pets but not when I was very young. I got them when I was about 8. But having pets taught me about responsibility as we had to take them out from time to time, make sure their water bowl was filled at all times, make sure food was given to them on time. When I got older like abt 15 i started cooking for them as well so I had to make sure there was food in the house to cook for them. But i never regret having my pets. They are a delight in my life. BTW i have 7 dogs and 2 fish right now :D

Always had pets - cats, dogs - the normal and then some exotics - had a baboon spider once for almost 3 years - I let it go,A tree snake for 3 weeks - my mom let it go with all the clothes in my cupboard,A white rat - 4 years - run off with some wild field mouse...
A mongoose (stokstert meerkat) - the cutest ever
A velvet monkey - became too wild... gave it to the petshop
A hedgehog - nature concervation took it - endangered species...
Now I have 2 boerboele - One is a drunkard - addicted to beershandy....

I grew up with dogs and had a cat when I was a teenager (it was mean). I now have two dogs and a cat. Have had animals in the home almost all my life and cannot see myself ever living without an animal in my life...especially a dog! I love them and like them better than people
