Why are the alternative energy/fuel economy products coming out NOW??

I've been asked to start this discussion so here it is.
This is something that is eating away at me and has been for awhile now. There are so many alternative energy/fuel economy products flooding the market right now. Why didn't these products come out 5 or 10 years ago?
The energy "crisis", in my opinion, doesn't exist. What we are going through is a product of the greedy top executives of the major oil companies, auto manufactures, etc. The cost of fuel that we pay has very little to do with the price of a barrel of oil. Oil companies are making record profits right now. If there is such a "crisis", how are they making these profits??? Price gouging... right from the top!
I had to vent. I know there's more myLotters who need to vent as well. Well, here's your chance. Give us all your views on this. Maybe something good can come from it. Who knows?

I have to remark about this, that there is or there is becoming a shortage of oil in some of the sources (pools) used today. You have a very good point with the price gouging, though! I can see making a profit but record profits month after month?!? And you can see the government is not exactly jumping at slowing things down either. You would swear they were working together or something!
But without anger/frustration/pain there can be no growth. My suggestion is to take the equation from the greed hungry execs and politicians! Let's all just get electric cars! The public out cry for these vehicles will increase production, lower cost and create better technology for them! If the government wants to get us for the electricity lets take that away from them too by creating smaller solar arrays to charge the cars.
Let's not get made about gas prices and the greedy people behind it all...let's get even and walk away from their 'game' all together.

That's a wonderful concept, and I am definitely doing my part of the walking!
But there are so many people so severely affected right this moment by the rising costs of just about everything that they cannot afford to buy a new car or solar energy. Maybe, if those of us who can do it will do it, the prices of these commodities will come down significantly enough so that everyone can afford them.
At the moment, I believe your answer is the best for decreasing the massive profits of the oil executives. But, then, do you think that the large car manufactures don't have their hands in the till as well? This may be a bigger 'plot', or conspiracy, if you will, than we ever imagined, and not only are the government and oil executives working together, but the car manufactures as well.
I can see a "sort of" good scenario and that is they are attempting to stimulate the economy by forcing us to buy fuel efficient autos. But, good for whom? The government, the oil moguls and the big kahoonas in the auto industry are all doing very well for themselves, while we're stuck in the middle.

These products have been known for a long time now. The oil companies are now realizing people want change and are putting out these new energy sources to keep there money coming, becouse oil will be soon be a thing of the past and alternative energy will be the current thing.

I think that there is an energy crisis, with peak oil, global warming, and water issues. There is price gouging, I know, but all overspent commodities go higher at first before we run out.

hi
we all know that energy can be created in form and can be destroyed in other form.
In the same way energy that we are using write now is in the form of petrol, diesel, cooking gas. In few days this may come to an end and we may not be provided with any types of petrol, diesel. At that this energy is formed in other way for the utilization.
There comes the BIODIESEL which is our burning topic.
It is Biotechnolgies bioproduct which will surely come into existence with in a few months to years.
Then we can use this energy as well for many years, after some years again this form of petrol, diesel will rejuvunate.
I think i have given u some information to my knowledge.

We are running out of fuel as everyone can see. The price of fuel is getting higher and higher because of the actions of oil companies. However, if you take a global look at the oil there is more than that.
The world is getting bigger and nearly every vehicle is using oil. This surely increases the consumption everyday. Everyday people are studying hard to get a driving licence here and when they get one, they buy a car after that. The consumption increases again. So, the pricez also increase with them.
In the other hand, oil is not an infinite source in our world. It is for sure, there is SO MUCH oil in the world but we are very (too) depended on it. Our cars, electric plants and many other stuff use this oil to produce some force.
Oil also causes some damages to our world, as you already know, the environmental ones.
For this reason, using alternative fuels or energies is very important but this is your point. I mean, they should have been out 5-10 years ago but we are seeing them only now. Why?
Money speaks. In every side of the world this is the answer. Some people stock some goods and the value increases, and then they sell some other stuff which they couldn't sell in the past, then release the stocked goods for a higher price so that will help them earn twice for a thing. Nobody will think about your responsibilities. Nobody will care about your food but they will only try to get more of you. Even if you are starving.

It's true that gas companies and such are making mad profits right now, but that's only scratching the surface of the issue. You asked why all of the alternative energy stuff has been coming out now rather than 5 or 10 years ago. I think that it's because the people who can/could do something about the state of human consumption are finally starting to realize that it's no longer about saving our *planet* - the planet is a big spinning ball of rock, IT could care less what anyone does - but it's about saving our *species*. Humans now consume and *waste* so much, it's absolutely mind boggling, and unless we can start becoming energy / waste conscious and actually start dealing with our rampant consumerism and carelessness, we (as a race) are going to end up killing ourselves off or at best, making life miserable for ourselves. Gas is only the tippy top of the iceberg...

Alternative energy and fuel sources have been around for years. They're really only starting to become mainstream now because so many people are looking for alternatives to high gas prices and high energy prices. It's just more people looking to make money. They could care less about the alternative fuel/energy sources impact on the environment as long as they get theirs.

This should have been out before now and it will cost money to make. I guess you have to really have a problem before they try something different. Instead of getting ready to try before it gets bad.

In the past there have always been talk about alternative energy/fuel economy products but the super power countries were against it. Since the gulf war and they see the strain that have been happening then they started to donate money to these countries who have the interest to do trail run. After these become successful then they decided that they are going into it full force. It is not that it is something that is just happening. It has been here for couple years well.
You can check reports on Venezuela and Brazil to find more information on these topics.
