I'm nervous about college.

So, I'm an incoming freshman in the top university here in my country (Philippines), which is University of the Philippines. I am lucky to pass in such a prestigious and high-standard university, and I'm very proud of my achievement. Though, I know people are expecting rather high. I'm worried that I won't fulfill their expectations and even my own expectations, that I would embarrass myself as well as my parents, and ruin my school life. I now I shouldn't have such negative thoughts but I can't help myself. I'm not confident enough, and since I've been doing well, I'm afraid I would mess up this chapter in my life. Computer Science, is in demand right now, and it's very easy to find a job in connection to it. To increase my chances in passing, I strategically chose Computer Science as my course, over Architecture. People around me are always telling me that such a course is "too low", that I should have took other "greater" courses. I don't know, I just find CompSci suitable for me since I've been good at Web and Graphic Designing at my young age. My Dad even bought me my own laptop because he believes that I need it for college. However, even if I took pride of my work, and even though I have the resources and skill, I'm still not able to believe in myself enough. I still lack inner peace because I think about the feedbacks. What should I do? Should I shift to "more beneficial" courses or continue in studying Computer Science? I really don't know what to do. I'm looking forward to your help.

Just forget all the worries dear and get prepared for your future. You would find that college is also a good place to learn as your school was. We all had such apprehensions in our minds at such time in our lives. By the grace of God and Courage enthused in us by Him, we all are doing well in our respective fields. So Be Brave man. All the best

I am sure that you will be able to do well in college my friend. Do not worry much about how you will be doing. Being in college is exciting! Yes, there will be a lot of obstacles to hurdle. Don't worry for that is part of college life. I believe that you have chosen a great course! Study well... Good luck to you!

Continue in computer science.. If u dun even have the confidence in your own strong subject, do u think u will have greater confidence in a subject that's great but not to your interest?? Confidence and stress is determined by yourself.. Your dad bought u a laptop because he wants to encourage u, crave out your own career and be sure on wat u wanna do.. I guess he also support your decision in computer science ^_^ There's isn't a need to be so stress, although it's a top university in philippines, but it's still a school after all.. U need not top the school, just do your best in your studies and graduate ^_^ I believe that wat your parents requires of u only..

As a fellow computer Engineering student, I'll say the same. Yes i chose this stream and this course because it provides more chances of future jobs, is in demand and if i at a later stage decide to go for an MBA, i wouldnt have trouble with my technical skill. Now, as fa as your question is concerned ... If u truly beleive that you are good at computers, graphics and web designig .. and you are also interested in it all, then i think you should go ahead with this course. You dad buying u a new laptop suggests that he too believes you will do well. Other people do not know what u want, or how your life will move ahead. They do not now the future and i assure you, barring a select few people, many of them wont even know you that well, so make your decision on your own choices, rather than on mere comments of people who might not know you. As far as being nervous is concerned, thats pretty normal ..lol. I was terrified on my first day, but it worked out great. U will be fine as u start having fun. Good Luck ;).

Don't worry about college. College is the place you can have good time. You can skip class, you can make experiment, you can test your thought, and you can make mistakes. When you are working, you can't make mistakes. If you make one, people will yell at you and they will make you look bad. In college, if you make mistakes, all you need to do just study again or take the class again and you won't get yelled. About the major, don't worry, about what you want to study, just do it and if you don't like it, you can change your study subject later on. On your first year, you don't even get to learn anything about your major, all you get is the basic class. So, once again, don't worry and enjoy your time in college.
