Is it a must these days to provide internet at workplace ?

I think it depends on the job. I work in a library, so we have to have the internet to find information for people. But, not all jobs require the internet. A cashier at a grocery store doesn't require the internet, neither does a welder or construction worker. Sometimes, an auto mechanic might need the internet to help him find a part, but most of them use the phone to do that. So, I don't really think the internet is appropriate in all work situations.

I agree that it depends on the type of business involved. For some industries it is essential to have the internet for many reasons and for other industries it is not needed. Where I work we have the internet because we have to access information that is on another company's network server. Because we have the internet employees tend to surf, pay bills, do personal emails, etc. on company time. What they don't know is that the boss can and does monitor their activity and knows what each and every one is doing. He feels it is a negative for productivity.

well it is essential and i agree with you on that. but then there are people who ont have control over the important things and it is seen that most of the time they just do time pass in office and dont work

internet has made our life easier these days but it is not really the main concern. it will always depend on the nature of work or business that the person is handling, there are cases where the employee needs to have an internet connection in his place but there are still some work that doesn't need internet to be done, like if you work on a factory and you are under production or clerical duties then internet will be obsolete. on the other hand if you are a researcher or a person working in an international firm with branches in other places then i guess you need the internet. in my case we have an internet connection on our work since our work nature heavily relies on online duties, we need the internet very much to be able to work smoothly.

Yeah i think internet is a neccessity this days because in every orgnization reseach which is through internet has become a channel organizational goals
