It looks like the shell of the smaller tortoise has got a few bites missing out of it! Maybe this big fella was a bit hungry.
The bigger tortoise in the picture is 35 years old, I think he had been at the Zoo from when it opened, and they can live for a very long time, 70 years plus!
I expected these things to be slow, but let me say that they are very deceiving and can actually zoom along at a rapid pace, especially when it was feeding time.
Have you ever seen a tortoise this big?
Did you ever own a tortoise or any unusual animal that not many people had?

we had a raccoon as a pet when i was a kid. my father hadfound a bunch of babies in a tree hed cut down, and we took one of them and raised her. we had to get rid of her when she got bigger tho because she got mean and had started biting, and my littlest brother was just starting his "stick my fingers everywhere" phase as a toddler and hedve lost his entire arm to her. she was humungous!! while we did have her, she was sweet and cuddly and very playful.

You are lucky, I have only ever seen raccoons in pictures. Years ago I bought a jigsaw puzzle from a jumble sale of a gorgeous raccoon and I did it over and over again. So many times that eventually I could do it within about 30 minutes. I never got fed up of it.

We wemt to the Louisville Zoo last year. they had some pretty big turtles there also. I had never seen one personally until then. they were huge. Most of them moved around really slow because they are so big. One of them did take off fast though and it surprised me how quick it was too. I seen some Hippopotamus, Elephants and gorillas also for the very first time in person. They are huge and bigger to see in person.

I have never had one as a pet but have seen them this big at the National Zoo here in Washington DC. They are huge and make big bellowing noises. The time we went two were mating LOL
