Need to have houseplants

I don't know many other people who do this, and I tried to find a therapist who could explain it to me. I haven't had any luck with that so far. Anyway, after my friend died (well over a year ago), I bought a houseplant. And then I bought another. And then I bought another. And then...well, I suppose you get the point. I used to hate plants, but now I can't walk through the garden section alone.
Any explanations for this? Theories?
Any other compulsive plant buyers?

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I can't explain the plant thing, but I suffer from it, as well.
For me, plants offer a lot of comfort and they're something that I can care for and have an impact on. But, at the same time, the loss of a plant isn't as heartbreaking as a pet or person. My theory is that plants are a comfortable thing that we can care for but not have to pour a lot of emotion into. We receive from them, but they don't really need anything (short of water and sun) from us.
