house Sparrows are now in decline, yes tthat lovely little bird that we have all come to love since our childhood etc. Nationwide the numbers have gone down 50 per cent over the last 25 years! It has been put down to a lack of urban nesting places.
The RSPB are aiming to provide more nesting opportunities for the house sparrow and starlings as both breed of birds have been placed on the "Red List"
PS.... please don't tell them that my kitten has caught and killed two sparrows in the last week!

There surely has been a decline in the number of these beautiful creatures. At our place I put the blame on people cutting down trees which lined the streets. It's pathetic that they have to cut down the trees. They used to make the streets and houses more good and nice. The constant chirping of the birds made gave a good and natural feel to the house. Alas, they have gone away.

That's interesting. Until you mentioned it, I didn't realize I hadn't seen as many around here. We always have them building nests on our porch, either in the nest box or a houseplant or two that I have on my porch.
We have at least two, somethings three during the summer right here on our porch.

Yes i too loved and grew with a lot of house sparrows. BUt recently there was no sight of them.
tHe reasons stated was that the waves that are transmitted by cellphones is too much for the sparrows so they are not able to live in the towns.
But recently i see a lot of sparrows.
tHEy are back with a bang.
I just love and adore them
