I didn't get it either...until I watched all of the movies. This was before the new 2nd and 3rd movies came out. (I'm going to talk about them in the order they come in the story, not the order they were made.) I watched 4, 5, and 6 after I told my husband that I had never watched all of the Star Wars movies. He made me watch them all. These were the ones that were made first, with Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. I absolutely loved them. I loved the sci-fi genre of it, the classic underlying story line, and the freakin cool lightsabers. I wasn't so thrilled with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd movies, the ones with Ewan McGregor playing Obi Wan Kenobi, and I thought Hayden Christiansen was terrible as Anakin Skywalker. Nevertheless, it was still a great story and it was exciting to see how Anakin became Darth Vader.

For me, it combines some of the best elements of Sci-fi, with that of Fantasy, genres. You have the interplanetary traveling, and then the "magic of the Force." Doing things like being able to move huge fighter jets with a gesture just looks awsome. Plus, lightsabers are just cool toys...just imagining the Joker with one of them!
