You might think I am superstitious, but I believe if you hear a dog howling, something is about to happen, and it is not a good thing. The other day I hear this dog howling, and I thought to myself, that sounds scarey, I feel that something is going to happen but I didn't know what? It was the man's dog, next door to where I use to live. That dog kept howling, and something did happen to his Master, He is in the Hospital, something serious happen to him. I hope he is alright. Have you ever experience something like this with Dogs howling? It might have been your own Dog? Tell me if this has ever happen to you?

Well no I've havent but I do know somethings serious about to happen if a cat keeps coming around you when it has never done it before and starts sleeping in the bed with you and everything. That means that you or someone else is about to die...

Yes i totally believe in this. Last december each time we had a family get together we would hear our dog howl and it was bad, it sounded scary. This happened about 3 times then around 2 weeks later my grandmother passed away, it was just so horrible my mom told me how they believe in that and how each time she heard our dogs she would be scared, Also not to long ago they started howling again then a week or so later my dog was dying, like at that moment, but we gave her a medicine that we drink and a week later she was recuperating. Now that i KNOW each time they howl like that something bad is going to happen, this kind of scares me cause i went through this and experienced it twice. So people out there YES this is true and its not just a superstition.

Out in the country here I hear lots of dogs howling now and then. I can't relate it to anything bad happening though. My dog howls every now and again, but usually it's when there's a bunch of coyotes in the area. When she does howl in the house, I know not to let her out into her cage area because they are close to my house or in the backyard by the windows. Interesting theory, I don't know if it's superstitious or not, but there seems to be something about it being a bad omen because dogs can sense things that we humans cannot. I'll have to pay more attention to the neighbors dogs and see if there is a pattern, or if somebody indeed was sick or something. I'll have to admit that the mournful sound of howling does get your attention because they don't do it often.

There are hundreds of stories about the animal premonition. The very recent story is about more than ten people who was swept away by the flash floods while were bathing under the water falls in South India. That place used to be full of monkeys who roam around the rocks for the food the tourists feed. But strangely not even a single monkey was drowned or swept away by the flash floods that day. They haven't got down from the trees that day it seems.Likewise you might have heard about the elephants scuttling away to the high grounds during the Tsunami in Thailand few years back. They do a can sense a danger and react.

I always believed that they possess an extra sensory perception.

Well, thank you I am glad someone agrees with me, I think it is true that animals can sense when something is wrong. Just like some dogs will warn you about things happening, I truely believe that. Thanks for your input!

Well if the howling is really something that makes your hair stand that's really something to think about. I've learned some first-hand stories that support the belief that somebody would die if the dog howls, not necessarily the master but anyone in the neighborhood. There was one time that the dog of my neighbor howled and I jokingly said, "Oh my, what is that dog trying to imply... would somebody die???" The next day the old mother of my other neighbor passed away. Could it be just a co-incidence or could the dog really has some extra sensory power that men do not have.... Nobody knows!!!

my dog has started howling these past two nights and it is quite scary he is 3 years old and is a rottweiler, i read somewhere that he is only doing this to communicate with other dogs. I hope this is true cos I dont like things to happen like one of us dying.

I have always heard that too, I don't like to hear dogs howling. I don't specifically remember anything bad happening after I have heard a dog howl. I do know I get this creepy feeling when I hear them howl.

One time our neighbors went away for the weekend and left their dog chained outside. He was so lonely he started barking. I woke up and was going to go outside and talk to the dog. Suddenly, the dog started crying. The neighbor on the other side of where the dog lived was beating the dog with a 2 x 4. I told him to stop beating the dog. I said that it was not the dog's fault that it was left tied up. Anyway, the guy went back to bed. The next day the neighbors came home and I went and talked with them. I told them that they should not leave the dog for the weekend like that and that they might want to find a different home for the dog if they could not take care of it. Well the neighbors moved to a bigger house and yard where the dog had room to roam. I am glad for the dog's sake. So something did happen but it happened to the dog. Thankfully, the dog is doing fine now.

I have heard dogs howling also but never thought that something was going to happen. I have owned many dogs and they would howl every now and then, but I always thought that they were sad or something. I always gave my dogs attention and they would stop howling. My husband acts like he is crying sometimes and my dog will howl because he thinks my husband is really crying.

Hi, In my neighbourhood I hear dogs howling all the time. I have never been superstitious about it as it happens so frequently. I cannot say that it has ever been the beginning of anything bad that has happened. I think most dogs howl because they hear other dogs in the distance. That is my two cents anyways. cheers,

I'm not a supersticious person, but you might be right! Our neighbours (who are rather nasty and selfish people) bought a puppy a couple of months back. Now, this puppy was left outside all the time, even in the cold, and would howl and wimper non stop. Well, one day, it carried on so much, that someone called animal control. Guess what? They no longer have a puppy, and it is all because of the howling! Good thing too, as they were highly abusive to the animal, yelling at it to shut up and not providing the right sort of care. Now, I would have reported them myself, but they are nasty people, and I have to live beside them. I believe it was someone further down the road that did report it. Call me a coward, but I do have a family to protect, and these neighbours have no respect for themselves, let alone anyone else, and the last person who 'upset them' (their landlord I believe) was beaten up rather badly.

Hi Marcia I believe that dogs have an instinct that we dont have and are able to tap into wether someone is ill or is going to be ill sometimes it must happen at night and it is the only way that the dog is able to bring attention to the situation IF people heed the warning its trying to give Being epileptic when I am going to be ill and dont know my dogs huddle around me as if to warn me to b careful-all living creatures especially dogs in this situation have that sense /esp that we dont use or have-yoour friend littleowl

My neighbor's dog howls almost every night as I think they' chain it outside. it howls at the possums that slink through from the hills looking for garbage cans to raid. sometimes the owners finally bring them in and the howling stops then for awhile.but nothing bad has ever shown up because of their dog howling.

Hi there! I hear dogs howling everynight in our neighborhood. They really give me a hair-raising experience everytime they do that..I hate to admit it but I believe when they do it, they must have seen something negative. I have observed that when this group of dogs begin to howl, they are all facing the same direction as if they are trying to follow or scare away someone. I'm getting used to it but I still feel goose-bumps everytime dogs howl.

I was out for most of the day but when at night the neighbour's dog sometimes howling for period of time at my sleep time. Sometimes I could not sleep when dog howling as it was quite noisy to me. Maybe next time I have to drop by the neighbour and may ask the neighbour to keep the dog inside. It might solve the problem but I doubt that the neighbour would do it.

How scary! I am sorry about your neighbour! Yes, when I lived in Peru dog howling might have meant an earthquake was coming! Animals seem to know!

Dogs have a sense of when things are not quite right. Especially, when it hast to do with someone they are around on a regular basis. They can also be howling because of something that has already taken place that they sense was tragic. Dogs are very perceptive animals. I do not think that it is being superstitious. Things like that can be quite eerie. What's funny is that as soon as I read about superstition and howling, I started reading the reat of your post in a whisper, LOL.

well i neva heard dogs barkin' n sumthing real bad happened like in your case (i'll pray for the man, hope he's alright). the only thing close that ever happened to me was my dog was barking a lot at night and we finally went out thurr. we looked right by the steps on the side and there was a snake, my dog was barking at the snake... so we got a shovel and killed it. if we didn't go see why he was barking... the snake would've got away or when sumone went outside, they could've got bite. so sometimes you gotta pay attention to your dog when they're barking.
