Should homework assignments be limited to a maximum of three nights a week?

In my country, most students have lots of homeworks to do every nights, and they have to take lots of time to finish that will reduce the time of sleeping. Even at weekend, students are busy doing their homework instead of doing something they interested or just have a relax. So how much homework do you think is enough for a student?

There should be some limits on homework as kids should still have some time to be kids. If they are forever doing homework they will likely end up very resentful of the school system. This could push them away from furthering their education. Kids do not need to do that as education is the only way to get ahead in the world these days.

Dear friend,
I hope these should be given if it is needed and it should never become a burden and moreover being burden could make more mental and character problems. Hence homeworks and assignments should be given individually according to the capacity of that individual and if that students do well the toughness of the assignment or home work could be adjusted accordingly. May be a gradual process to help the kid or student to develop.

I think homework is a good thing. How can much be taught in 55 minutes or less? I mean, the bell rings, everyone falls into place, roll is called, class begins with teacher telling what is going to go on in class today, class begins. Then 10 minutes before the bell is to ring, students start to wind down and get ready to leave, 5 minutes before the teacher gives out homework and last minutes comments - do the math and they get like 20 minutes of 55 as teaching time. SMall amount of time to learn something well enough to take a test on friday.

I really don't we should be making our schools any easier. Homework is simply an obstacle one has to deal with going through school. Its like saying "o should i only answer phone calls for work on Fridays". It is simply something that has to be done. Furthermore hardly any kids do their homework, students are becoming increasingly more unmotivated and the last thing we should so is give into them. If anything we should be making schools harder, its really then only way it will be of any benefit to not only themselves but to their contributions to society. If a kid doesn't want to do their homework well thats too bad he will suffer the consequences at school by getting a lower mark. Through this we will be able to distinguish the motivated students from those who aren't. Those who aren't are simply going to have to deal with the fact that they have to aply themselves to get what they want.

about once or twice out of week depending on how many classes you have for both high school and college.

When I was teaching before, I used to give 2-3 home works every night but on week ends they are free. It is not also advisable to stuck the students on homework without giving them time to relax. It will make them hate school because of home work. Give a motivating type of homework to make enjoy doing it.

when i was still in school, teachers/profeesors give us homeworks but not every night. if i can remember it right, we only have one homework per week per subject. i believe the purpose of homeworks is to maximize the study time of students. but honestly, it can't be maximized right inside the classroom.

Are you also living in the Philippines? If that so I must admit that most teachers are really crazy they are giving bunchs of assignments and they don't mind if the other professors of other subjects have given already too much assignment. Sometimes there are assignment that cannot be done just for one day. It is okay with me that there would be an assignment every weekend but not to the extent that it sounds like a project already. I know in America they don't give assignments every weekend for the consideration as family day or a day for relaxation. I think there should be the implementation of the rule that 3 subjects would be only allowed in one day for assignments.

I do think the homework should be limited, and some of the added pressures they have put on these kids.I can only say this towards my own situation,My daughter went from never missing a homework assignment, and on the honors,to now she is frustrated every night that is just so much homework and projects to do.She works at for hours and I feel she could put some more time into it,but I also feel there is too much for them to keep up with if they want to have any fun outside of school.I do think that the purpose of it is to prepare them better for the world today,I just think they are going to far with it,and they could be taught it in a much better way.
