How many people are very much expert in English in mylot..??
I am not one among them, defenately.
I am not much fluent in english and also especially in the English Grammar.
I can express the feelings, and I can express what i though, to put it in a work, which can be understandable by others to some extend.
Infact One of our mylot member has commented for my discussion, when he is reponding, he cretisize about my English Grammar usages.
Yes, i agree that i am not a scholar in english, i have been good in my regional language, i know English to some extend, ie., i can try to communicate others about what i what to communitate.. and it will be understandable by others.. its very simple. thats all i know..
How many people here, very good english (without gramatical mistakes..) those who are having the English as regional language and mother tougue..
Post your comments..

I am sorry to hear you have been criticized, perhaps they thought they were being helpful.
All in all I think that you should be proud of your ability to communicate in English. I am sure there are people in my country (where English is native), that would not be of your level.

Im on the same page as you...
I can also communicate in English because this is taught in school.. But I also have to admit that I am not fluent in english too.. Its just that its not our native language and I am happy that an english speaking person could understand what Im trying to say, thats what important I believe!
with regards to those trying to criticize you, take it as if they just want to help you or us... Maybe they just want to give some tips to improve our english grammar.
Take care!!!

No one is indeed an expert, but everyone can do their best to not mees up their grammar here. It sometimes is quite annoying and other times, not attractive at all. I ignored some of the posts because i cannot stand the grammar. I think that is a plus if you want people to react at what you post(^^,)

I refuse to believe that anyone here uses perfect spelling and grammar all the time. English is my mother tongue, and I like to think that I write well, but of course I am prone to making mistakes.
As far as i'm concerned, if I can understand what you're trying to say to me then it's all good. It's hard to communicate a point in a foreign language if you are not fluent. I studied the French language for five years in secondary school and my French grammar is terrible.
Try not to worry about it :)

My mother tongue is Malayalam and I am now settled in a state which speaks Kannada. But I grew up in the Middle East and though I do speak my mother tongue, I speak and think better in English. But I can't say my grammar is perfect. I make mistakes too.
And about people on myLot...if they are criticizing in a postitive way where you can then try to better yourself, then I think it's good. Some people myLot to improve their English...but I don't think it's nice to be rude about someone's mistakes on the English language. I've also come across some discussions where I've wanted to respond (based on the title) but couldn't because it wasn't clear what the poster was talking about...so sometimes wrong grammar can pose a problem on myLot.

cheannai your English is very good. Most of us who speak English know nothing whatsoever of any other language so you are doing very much better than we are.
If someone responds to you like that you must report them because that sort of thing is totally unacceptable here in myLot. Good luck...

I posted a discussion similar to this some time ago. The majority of the people that responded seem to think the most important thing is that you are understood. I think so. The purpose here is to discuss and share ideas. The point is not to be graded by eachother. A good bonus is that we get better at english too. If one never uses a language one never gets better either.

I, too, can speak English, but not that fluent. My grammar needs some more polishing but I try my best to make my words clearer to understand.
Also, I don't want to elaborate things. I prefer writing in short, but concise and complete, sentences (just like these).

I think in myLot, grammar and English comes second only. Feelings, thoughts, emotions, and how you get along with the people is the most important thing. So don't mind people who criticize you. They should reflect on themselves first before doing such things. English is the universal language and is widely used around the world for business and other purposes. Sure it would be very advantageous to be fluent and good at it but not all people have the time and luxury to study it or learn it to a high extent. As long as one is sincere and true with his/her thoughts, and as long as these thoughts don't hurt others, then one is accountable for what he/she has to say. So for people who criticize other for this, I think they are really shallow and they do not take seriously what other people say. It's all about the content and not the grammar or spelling.
I'm a young editor in my school's publication, and if you need any help or something. Just tell me. Although I am not that good still and I also make mistakes. Mistakes are inevitable, no one's perfect. Hmm.. but you probably don't need any help, as I've said, about what really matters here. Good luck. Let's be friends. ^^

Hi there chennai_b02!
You are doing well in english!
I am beginer here and I just do not know how to communicte others about what I think with english. I even do not know how to express my idea in english. The grammar, for me, it is so hard and have a long way to learn.

English is my first language and I'm pretty good at it.
I've tried to learn other languages on numerous occasions and I'm very poor at picking up new languages. I admire anybody who has that skill. So you should be being praised for your abilities in a second language!

I am sorry to hear about u being criticized. Its one of my pet peeves, being criticized and make us feel like an idiot. They should just learn how to be subtle if they have to correct us, not to the point of shaming us.
I am not from an English country, but English is vital for us. And despite the education I've got in school, I even up to now can't perfect my English. There are times that I commit mistakes especially when I'm in a hurry. In the case of mylot, its difficult to edit. Once we post something, there's no going back or time to edit it. Its fixed so thats why most of my posts usually are in bad english, wrong grammar and even the spellings. I even realized it too late. hehe. But anyway whats vital here is we can understand and be able to communicate each other. GOOD GRAMMAR or not, it won't matter. Correcting may be good BUT SHOULD BE SUBTLE and in a RESPECTABLE manner. :)

It does not bother me when someone's English grammar is off. I am from the United States and speak English fluently. I also always got A's in English class so I feel that I speak and/or write English in a grammatically correct manner for the most part. I also can speak some Spanish and write some Spanish. I know that my grammar in Spanish is horrible. I combine past and present tenses all the time, but when I do speak Spanish to people they always understand the message that I am trying to convey. I think it is wonderful when someone tries to better themself and I believe that practice makes perfect. The worst thing is to be too critical of someone over grammar when they are trying to speak or write in another language other than their mother tongue. It makes that person self-conscious about their abilities. I say try to do your best and don't care what others have to say if they are critical and/or rude.

English is not my native language, but yet, i dont find it hard to communicate with people in english. i make many mistakes while writing, not because i dont know how to write words, but because i write quickly and i don't mind mistakes that much. Keep it up, myLotting can really help you practise your english. I used to answer in Yahoo! Answers and i am 100 % sure that YAnswers improved my English. And so will myLot.
