Could you tell me something about your denomination?

Please note that this discussion is not to belittle anybody's faith but only for knowledge and information. I have always been interested in denominations. How can a single religion have so many denominations? For instance, I was born a catholic. Although I don't practice any religion right now (though I have retained interest in it) I know the basic tenets of catholicism. I guess I could call it the main branch of Christianity. We have Mother Mary, plenty of angels and saints, and a lot of clergy. We are supposed to be obedient to the pope and other elders of the church. We have a heaven, a hell that burns constantly, and a judgment day. Sunday mass is a must, evening rosary is a must. And regular confessions are a must. So, what denomination do you belong to? And what are its basic features? How are you different from catholics? Cheers and happy mylotting!

Very interesting question! I can tell you about Hinduism. Basically even when it started, it started not with God but with philosophy. So there were many schools of philosophy, some believed in the scriptures and some didn't. All of them were Hindus. It was more a way of life, a culture rather than a religion. So now you can have a Hindu who doesn't believe in God at all. You can have a Hindu who believes in one God, you can have a Hindu who believes in several Gods. So from the very outset, it had branches and diversity, and that unity in diversity is still maintained, but gradually losing its touch. So there are a hundred denominations in Hinduism, each having its own set of beliefs, but all comes under Hinduism. There are no sub divisions in Hindu faith - like you have in Christianity. A long time ago there were two classes - Shivaites and Vaishnavites but now they are almost redundant, and 95% won't know what they are (including me!) So you believe what seems ideal for you. There are the scriptures - thousands of books again and you pick and choose that part which you like or you adapt one philosophy that attracts you.

That's why I love Hinduism, because of its flexibility and tolerance.

As far as denomination goes, I was born nothing, taught nothing and had to find my own way. I did my time as a Catholic until I saw the light. I am now a Free Will Baptist by choice. I attend regular church services, (3 a week,) along with extracurricular church activities like singings, revivals, etc., because I want to. I read my Bible regularly, because I want to. I am very happy with my chosen faith, we have a "free will" as in choosing to follow Jesus' leadership after being called as a servant of God. Salvation is free and has been paid for by Jesus dying on the cross. To gain it, you must realize you have sinned and need to ask God for forgiveness and profess to live each and every day as God would lead you to. You will fail, you are human and must constantly ask forgiveness but pray straight to God, no priest will get anyone there. I am trying as fervently as I know how to grow in the knowledge and grace of Jesus Christ in hopes of entering Heaven one day. Hope this has helped.

I am not of any religion, my parents were never into religion but I do have spiritual leanings, I guess you could say it is a religion within myself. I don't believe in any of the many books as each religion has one and there can on;y be one original and i don't believe in man made structures that people worship in as they close there doors while people are freezing outside and I don't believe in ordinary men who have shown lately they have human failings like the rest of us being treated like they themselves are gods..I do not intend in upsetting anyone who is religious, each to their own I say. I do believe there is something but I believe it is within ourselves and has a lot to do with spiritual beings around us, I think out inner voice has a lot more to do with the spiritual sides of things than we are even expected to try and figur5e out, I think we will find out all about many things when out time is here...
