In our country, I would say that wheat is the staple for most people. In most countries that have a European or Middle Eastern origin, bread is the base of most diets. It's often mentioned in the ancient literature.
But, for me, I would say that potatoes are the base of my diet. Potatoes tend to have more nutrients than bread, so I chose them instead of bread as my main starch. I also eat a little wild rice once in a while.

Oh, I have never come across that in the literature. Interesting information. In Northern part of India where people are of Aryan descent they eat wheat, whereas Southern and Eastern Indian prefer rice. What you is true of us. How do you make potato? We have so much potato...it's very very good in our place, but people don't eat as much as they eat rice. But rice is not much yielding as much as potato is. I want to teach people how to eat potato, but don't really know how to prepare an interesting item.

I usually microwave mine whole and then mash it up and mix it with vegetables and sauce. But, most people either bake them with the skin on and put butter, chili, or other items on top, or they take the skin off, boil, and then mash them. It's a very starchy food and it's very versatile. I think you can even make a kind of flour out of them.

Oh thanks for the reply. Perhaps I need to try more often so that I develop the taste. Once tried but did not like it so much.

Meat consumption here is quite big though an increasing number of people are becoming vegetarian. I myself, was vegetarian till recently, now I eat some oily fish, since I discovered that communities that eat oily fish have a lower incidence of many diseases.

How is the meat consumption like? India lot many people are veg, but since i am from Eastern part of India I eat lot of meat. We could perhaps be best meat eater in the world! We eat almost anything... so there is a line... anything that crawls except train, anything that flies except plane, anything that swims except submarine. Blessings!

Rice is the staple food in my country. Most Filipinos cannot eat without rice on the table. It is a good source of carbohydrates and it gives energy.

oh good to know that. It's surprising to know as well that Italians like rice. I thought most Europeans like potato or something of that kind. Thanks for responding.
