Have you ever eaten a frozen banana dipped in chocolate?

I have lived in states where most ice cream places have frozen bananas dipped in chocloate. Most of the time when I ask, I get strange looks like I'm asking for alien food. Do frozen bananas dipped in chocolate sound good to you or weird and yucky? Do you eat any frozen fruits dipped in chocolate? Most people have tried strawberries dipped in chocolate, have you? Have you ever made chocolate dipped fruit at home? How do you do it?

Now that you mentioned it, I really don't see a lot of places selling those where I live. When I was growing up in Michigan, I used to see them all the time. There is one place where I live now that has some frozen bananas, but they're not on a stick, just cut up and dipped in chocolate. To be honest, though, it's not my favorite type of frozen treat, even though it's probably one of the healthier treats to eat. I'd rather eat regular ice cream.

desertdarlene_ I can't drive all the way to Michigan. Where are you living now? Maybe I can get over there before it's dark. I'll take the cut up bananas. It's probably neater. I eat vanilla ice cream with brownies sometimes. I like french vanilla, what's your favourite flavour?

I live in San Diego and I saw them at only one store, Windmill Farms. They may also be available at any Henry's, Trader Joes, or Whole Foods as Windmill Farms is a lot like those stores. They weren't that expensive, either.

desertdarlene_ Okay, I live on the Eastern side of the country. I don't think I can get there by dark. If I ever get out to San Diego, I know where I'm going first!

That sounds divine! Do you use regular milk chocolate or is there another kind? I must get this unique concoction for my recipe blog! Thanks for the fantastic idea.

beautyqueen_ so glad to be of service. They use a darker chocolate. I don't think it melts as fast as milk chocolate. (less sugar, duh) You and roll them in nuts as well. anawar out.

I have never heard of frozen bananas dipped in chocolate. I have heard of strawberries dipped in chocolate but they were not that common. Most of the time, it has been on special occasions such as wedding showers and things like that. I have not made it, because I am not in the upper class and if you make chocolate dipped strawberries, you can also afford eclairs, cheesecakes, and fancy squares and stuff like that. I have no idea how to make them.

I've never had anything like that. Why ruin good chocolate with something healthy? I can't chew frozen things, so I haven't tried one. The cold hurts my teeth, but it sounds like a wonderful treat.

They are just very sensitive, always have been. Even the sensitive teeth toothpastes don't help a whole lot. It's just something I've learned to deal with but it gets worse as I get older.

dragon_ I get your point about ruining good chocolate by adding it to something healthy! Some people suggested cutting up the banana. I guess that would still be too cold for you. Why do your teeth hurt?

cinderella_ Biting into a frozen banana is quite an experience. It takes some skill. (not really) When it's hot out, the whole concoction starts to melt and it's easier to bite into the banana. If you try it, be warned. It can be messy.

yes i have had a frozen banana dipped in chocolate. I like frozen grapes also. I have had strawberies dipped in cholcolate but never frozen strawberries. They make melting chocolate for dipping in containers to heat in the microwave now. Very easy. Otherwise just melt some chocolate chips, stirring like every 10 seconds so it does not scorch and dip away. That is in a microwave. I have never melted chocolate in a pan on the stove. I have never been to a restaurant that serves frozen choco dipped bananas.

Thanks for the tips. I think I have seen that melting chocolate in containers. The problem is, I don't have a microwave. I wonder if I can heat it up on the stove? As you suggested, never take my eyes off the pot. What do you think? Will it work? I like frozen grapes as well, but I'm not crazy for them. I only eat them every once in awhile.

Oh I don't know anywhere that makes these, but I am going to have to make them for dessert tomorrow night! If you just put on a thin coating of chocolate they wouldn't be too unhealthy for you either - or you could just cover half in chocolate and then dip it in nuts - yum! Now I am thinking of eating all sorts of fruit in chocolate! I haven't made them myself but had them at parties, strawberries are delicious in milk chocolate and dipped in white chocolate too. Now that has me thinking, what about bananas dipped in white chocolate then rolled in coconut?

kameleen_ I'm glad that nice childhood memory kicked in. Our memories take us right back to the moment, as if it still existed. I think I have to get one of those bananas soon, if I ever stop spending time on myot instead! I'm worried I'll forget how to spell bananas.

I remember my dad used to cover banans with chocolate and then put them in the freezer and eat them later. I think they are good. Alot of frozen fruits would probaly be good dipped in chocloate but I would prefer bananas.

Add a few peanuts, pecans or almonds which I forgot to mention... and make the chocolate dark and wonderful and you have something fantastic. I must admit that I used a knife and cut it into small pieces. It was something that took awhile to eat. I kept it in the refrigerator wraped with plastic wrap in between the snacks. I got it from the the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory... It was mmm good.

Oh my God! I'm glad somebody else has heard of this. I remember when I was a kid, my mom bought this little package with the dipping chocolate and sticks. We would break the banan in half, put the stick in it, and dip it in the chocolate sauce. Then we would stick it on some wax paper and put it in the freezer. They were so good! I miss those. I wonder if they still sell the little kit to make those.

That's not how we did it. I specifically remember making them that way with my mom. I suppose you could freeze them first, but it wouldn't really make a difference. You'd just be sticking them in the freezer twice because you have to put them in the freezer for the chocolate to harden. You'd have to put the sticks in the bananas first before sticking them in the freezer, of course, if you wanted to freeze the bananas first. The way we did it, it was just like making a popsicle, except it was a chocolate-coated popsicle.

I worked briefly at a place that makes fruit baskets and dips a lot of the fruit into milk and white chocolate. I learned a boatload about what it takes to pull that off (dipping fruit into chocolate) and I think what I am going to do due to your question about how to do it is start up a small web page about that very idea, dipping fruit in chocolate. Thanks for posing your question. Beamer23

Ok, what you have done is to give me is an idea for a new webpage that I am going to make to explain what it is that I have learned about dipping various kinds of fruit into chocolate at home. I am not familiar with the procedure on dipping frozen bananas so I shall leave that alone. Like did you know, all fruit needs to be patted dry before the actual dipping takes place. That and once you have dipped the chocolate. a lot of the excess can be shaken back off the fruit and saved for the next batch. Also, you don't want to use old chocolate. It doesn't melt very good. Stuff like that. Beamer23

I looooove frozen bananas dipped in chocolat. In my state you can buy them in movie theaters like you buy popcorn. We even have a name for it: "Oufty". It taste really good. I never tried frozen strawberries though, I definitely should try it. Also I've eaten frozen cherries, but they were not dipped in chocolate. But I'm convinced every kind of fruit dipped in chocolate taste well: bananas, peaches, mango's, coconut,... I'll try them all some day!

jensgeukens_ How am I supposed to get to Belguim? You guys have all the best chocolate. I'm so pleased to know my beloved frozen banana has it's own name. Wouldn't that be funny if I went to an ice cream place here and asked for an "Oufty"? How do you pronounce that word? I'm not too sure about the cherries though. What about the pits?

yeah when I lived in texas this was a treat of choice. My mom when she was being a mom actually made these and we bought them too. LOL!! I loved them and now you have reminded me of something that I can make with the kids. LOL! Just a cookie tray with wax paper. Some Milk or dark chocolate melted and a buch of bananas cut in half and some popsicle stick to stick in the bananas so that you can dip and eat them easily. LOL!! I love chocolate covered cherries, blueberries and strawberries.

chocolate covered bananas. - bananas
trust me a popsicle stick is not to thick and you not cutting the banana in half length wise. so it works quite nicely. I have included a pic of how the homemade ones made for you?

OKay, I'm having trouble with a visual here. Someone told me to cut the banana in half, put in a stick, then freeze the banana around the stick. I wasn't sure what kind of stick to use, in fact I just asked someone. I thought a popsicle stick would be too thick?

I loved strawberries dipped in chocolates.. haha.. BUt i prefer bananas in chocolate more.. hehe ^_^ Because bananas are not as sweet as strawberries, and thus the combination of banana with chocolate will blend in prefectly.. With the strong chocolate inside the mouth, but yet at the same time, we can taste the banana too ^_^ LOL

I love frozen bananas dipped in chocolate! They are to die for! I have never heard of a ice cream place selling them thou, but I'm from a small town. We have just always did it at home as a treat! What ever fruit you want you dip it in melted barks chocolate. Most anything dipped in chocolate is good to me! Now, my mom likes to make her dipping chocolate old school. you take semi chocolate chips and 1/2 a bar of paraffin, put in a double boiler and melt both completely. Then you dip what ever you like. Me, myself and I on the other hand prefer barks chocolate! Oh, you set it on wax paper to dry.

moveadlung_ It's a tasty sensation. How can I describe it to you? The banana is cold, so you take small bites at first. The chocolate around it crumbles a bit, so you have to catch every morsel. It's not the banana or the chocolate that drives me crazy. I like it because it's different. That's the best I can do, it's been so long_ Can anyone here help with their own description?
