I was irritated. Would you have been?

First of all, I am not sure if I put this in the right interest. I was at my sons little league baseball game. He is 13 years old. The manager had borrowed a player from another team on the league (pool player) to help fill in. We had just enough of our own players. Rather than this extra player actually filling in if we needed him to, he played the whole game, while we rotated our players to sit out of the game. I was livid. My husband explained to the manager that he didn't think it was right for one of our guys to sit out of the game, while a player from another team played the whole game. His response to my husband was that he just wants to win and so do the kids. It is his first year managing and he was forced into the position.
I still am bothered by this because I feel he is implying to his players that he wants to win, but they are not good enough to win so he has to go elsewhere.
Would anyone else be bothered by this? Am I overreacting?

The coach definately made a mistake. He should have used the players on his team first. The extra player could have been used if there had been an injury to one of the regular players. What is so bad about this situation is that the boys on the team put their time in at practice...they have earned the right to play. Do the league rules state that the extra player needed to play a minimum number of innings? Little League=Drama. My husband coached our son's team each year and I kept score. During that time we saw just about everything...good and bad.

My husband used to coach and umpire but it gets too crazy with some of he parents. We try not to be those kinds of parents but in this case we could not just stand back without saying something. The league rules do not state the extra player needs to play a certain number of innings.
I agree with you that the player from the other team should have only been put in if we needed him. There is no way he should have played the whole game.
Thanks for the support.

Oh I don't believe for a second that you are over reacting. I would have been very upset and I certainly would have said something to the coach about this. It is not right to have the regular team members rotate sitting out while the player from another team plays the entire game, how does that seem right???? Also, if this coach is only concerned with winning, well then, I don't believe he should be coaching. I mean, yeah we like to win too, but there is more to sports than just winning. I would be keeping an eye on this guy and how he treats the kids, because if he is only concerned about winning, then I am sure he won't be the best coach for the kids.

Thanks for the response. That's how I feel. It sends a bad message to the team he coaches. It doesn't matter to me whose child is the one sitting out, its not fair to them.
The borrowed player probably doesn't like it either, now that I think about it.
