Power Fluctuations

Our power has been on and off all day today. It's the 6th time it's happened and I've decided to keep the tv, cable and other things off for the time being.
My son and I are trying to bake some chocolate chip cookies but I keep putting it off just incase the power goes off again while they are in the oven.
I suppose this happens after a nasty storm the day before. I hope it doesn't ruin any electrical appliances and household items we have.
Have you lost any electrical appliances due to several power fluctuations?

I won 5 games to 3 and he got upset so we stopped playing. He is now in the shower and about to go to bed.
I did finish them and now I feel a little ill from eating too many. Our power has managed to stay on now so that is good.

The brain age games are fun aren't they? and your two year old is playing that? WOW very bright indeed.
He needs to learn not to get upset when he loses a game so I played fair and he did well to win a few games :)

We don't have this problem too much. However, I would think that it would be very hard on the appliances and that you should have things unplugged during something like that. Good luck with your cookies.

Yup I ended up turning some of them off for a while. The first batch of cookies burnt LOL because I forgot to set the timer and the second batch were ok too.

Yes in our offices many of our instruments burnt due to power fluctuations, but not even once in my home. Might be domestic supply is better than industrial in my country. Why don't you use a stablizer or invertor.

Well a stablizer is a device which keeps the output to a constant voltage even if the input fluctuate. So even if the the input supply varies you get constant desired output for your appliance. Its like a transformer.
An invertor is a sine ware generator which runs on battery and keep charging its battery when there is power. As soon as the power goes off it starts prioviding power to your elctrical appliances like TV, fa, tubelights etc by converting its battery power to AC power and the change over is automatic, you dont need to do anthing.

Awwwwwwwwwww I am so sorry to hear that Cupid. That must be sooo frustrating and costly too. We had power issues in Samoa where we use to live and we lost a tv and toaster. Not fun at all!!!

Yes the one we had was very strong, but not as strong in many other States so I've heard on the tv. Thanks for your comment.

I burnt the first batch because I forgot to start the timer and decided to not cook anymore because the power has gone of several times more. I'm going to wait it out a bit.

Power fluctuations and surges are hard on air conditioning compressors. When a bad storm is coming we turn ours off and we also turn it off if the power goes off or if we have a few low power fluctuations.

AH...we've become used to this since our move to the country! Rural life is grand! We had a transformer explode (about 1,000 feet from our house) last week and we had two computers and a TV (and all the things that are always plugged in) going and thankfully, nothing was ruined.
I say bake yer cookies! The power usually comes back on momentarily, just don't open the oven door! It will keep plenty of heat in there, and when the power goes back on, reset your oven! GOOD LUCK!!

When we use to live in Samoa, power fluctuations were the norm and we lost a tv and a toaster once. Glad that it doesn't happen here that much.
I'm off to bake the cookies :) thanks for responding and WELCOME to mylot!
