i was wondering what that was
after you post a discussion what does that number in bracets beside your name mean

THAT'S right, the number in brackets denote the number of responses you have made.
and you get a star that number reaches 100. higher the number in the star higher the ranking. 10 denotes highest ranking.

It is the number of post you've made, and that post is use to compute you daily earnings. The more the the more earnings, but make sure your post has an essence, and make it longer because some people said that if it is too short it will not be counted in computing your daily earnings.
