My daughter stopped eating in November but had gone vegetarian in September. She hasn't had a period since October even though she is eating much better now and has even gained a little weight back. The doctor keeps saying it should come back anytime but I'm worried. Any other mothers had to deal with this, and if so what were your experiences?

I am a anorexia/bulimia survivor. I had it when I was 16 until I was 17. I went from 206 pounds to 89 in less than 6 months. I think her period will start as soon as her body adjusts. It went thru so much with the anorexia and will do the same with a little weight gain. My period is stilled messed up 6 yrs later. Not sure if that's why. I would talk to her dr again, just to be on the safe side.
Hope this helps.

Thank you both. I am in constant contact with her doctor mostly because there is some issues with her GI tract now. She can't go with out a laxative but I have to watch her with those things to be sure she doesn't abuse them. And dhe has pain in her lower abdomen that they are still trying to figure out. The last doctor said he suspects crohn's disease . I am surprised to hear that the one friend has no ms but has 4 kids. I always thought you had to have one to get the other. That gives me hope because she has always wanted to be a mom some day and I would hate to see her lose that.

Hi, I had the same problem. I needed laxatives and I was in constant pain all thru my stomach. My doctor put me on fiber capsules and also put me on a light diet(plus, ensure). After a few weeks it started working. I hope this helps.

Her doctor suggested the ensure but it makes her very flemy so they took her off it. They were worried that it would aggravate her asthma. I wish it came in a non dairy form. Thanks again to everyone it really helps to hear all of your stories that have had happy endings. It gives me and her hope. You guys rock! :)

I myself have never had to deal with this, but I have
friends who have had daughters that were anorexic
and yes they did get their periods back after a lot
of treatment and gaining some weight. so I would not
worry and if she doesnt soon you can always check with
her doctor to be sure.

Hi Freedomg, My friend has this issue, She is a mother of four now but she still dont have MS, Doctor treatment is going on..
But when she faced this (first time)she was under lot of stress.. her mother thought that she is pregnant and my friend was crying that -thats not the case then her mother took her to the dr. There it was confirmed - nothing like that. But I think her mother should have belived her. enjoy :)
