What do you do when your mind is racing and it is keeping you from going to sleep? I do not always have this problem but sometimes when I have a lot going on it gets to me and causes me to lose sleep. When I have a lot of things to do the next day I will keep a list next to my bed and write down things on a to do list. Although when there are issues I am thinking about it is not that easy. I cannot just write things down and go to sleep like a to do list. Does anyone have any tips other than the write it down thing? What works for you?

This can making sleeping very tough. I suffer from this once in a while. I have a hard time getting to sleep to begin with. This makes it virtually impossible. My body will be exhausted, but my mind doesn't seem to notice it. I usually hop online and play around a bit to try to clear my mind. If this does not work I read for a while. Usually I can get into the book enough to forget all the other stuff going on in my life.
I find if I stay in bed when this is going on I just toss and turn so after about 45 minutes I get up do something. At least I can accomplish something since I am not getting sleep. I try to find some activity that takes a bit of focus so my mind is cleared of other things. That way when I stop my mind is somewhat clear. At this point I can usually fall asleep. Good luck to you.

Good idea to get up and do something. Are you afraid that whatever you are doing will stimulate the brain and make it harder to go to sleep? I think reading a book and getting your mind off of things is a great idea. I will be trying this in the future. Thanks for your response!

When that happens to me, I just let it race, I do not fight it. I watch the thoughts and wonder what they are doing. After a while, they get tired of racing and want to go back to the garage and sleep. Fighting a mind that wants a race is just asking for trouble. When you give in then it gets bored with you and wants to sleep.

It is difficult that's for sure. I usually take Valerian. it helps me sleep at night. I would lay awake until 3 or 4 in the AM if I did not take something to help me sleep.

Mine mind always seems to be wokring overtime. Even when I thought I had clocked out hours before. I keep thinking about my life and different ways to approach my problems. And mostly my writing and where to go with it. On a good note, it does pass the time. But I wish I had more hours in the day.
