Why should you put tags on your repsonses?

I could be wrong, but from what I understand it is so that people can find relevant discussions easier when using the search feature.

I know for your actual discussions but why in your responses to others discussions should you put tags?

It helps in the searches and I am sure my lot gets more credit too. We may even get more money by helping my lot out with them so I always do at least one tag.
