I want to buy...

Right now I'd like to buy a season of the show Everybody Loves Raymond. I've taken up watching some of the reruns on TV, and it really makes me laugh. Like most people, I like to laugh. But no way can I justify the expense, and I really don't need it anyway. What is the thing you would like to shop for or purchase?

Shoes that were not made in China...but the problem is that I cannot find shoes made elsewhere.

I want to buy a new pair of sandals, a nice, more comfortable and more expensive kind than any of the ones I already have. I did go out looking yesterday, and I found one pair that I like, but my size wasn't there. I did look in Zappos, but they didn't have that style. I could get by without them, and I just gave 3 nearly new pairs away to my son's girlfriend because I couldn't walk in them. When I try them on in the store, I always think I'll be able to wear them, and then when I try to walk in them for a while, I'm twisting my ankle and stumbling all over. I've been wearing flip flops, and they are not that good for long walks.

Hi Spookybutt,
Actually I'm glad you've convinced yourself not to purchase the Everybody Loves Raymond episodes. It was original when it first got started, but they seemed to run out of ideas after a while and IMO it got a little stale before long. So if you were like me, you'd eventually tire of it, I think.
Something like the Seinfeld series - except they had such an excellently well-cast team of actors and such creative writers that their episodes will probably have more mileage in them, even as reruns or as a DVD set.
Anyway, what do I want to buy, but can't justify purchasing?
I do need to get about 100 4-meter stainless steel poles so I can construct some frameworks to support maybe a dozen sets of fruiting vines in my back yard.
The trouble with stainless steel is that it's prohibitively expensive. It lasts forever, even in the weather, but you don't need to be clever to know it costs a lot.
And I've thought of using bamboo poles - but they really won't last very long out in the full weather under the weight of a mass of vines. About the only alternative might be galvanized poles - which is what I might end up using.
Anyway, I've got a couple months to think on it, seeing as how winter has just about descended on us here now. With the way fuel prices are going, I might be able to rig up a back yard oil rig as well - just one more home improvement job...

I just got home from doing two hours of work getting some aluminum scrap ready for recycling. A neighbor had a limb fall on his camper and smash it and he offered the aluminum to me, and of course I accepted it in a heart beat. It probably won't go for something fun, as I have other things that I need to pay for...but it is the fun of dreaming of getting something frivolous and fun with the money. It is a sad state to be without a desire for something fun and frivolous. It is those dreams that keep us alive and going, the chance to achieve our dreams and desires.
It is totally awesome to me that each of us has a deep desire and are being held back by the economy! Then you find people that don't care and will go out and get what they want when they want it. I have developed the habit of picking up the pennies that I find on the ground when I am shopping and saving them towards something I have been dreaming of having. It takes a while, but I do eventually get my dream desire. I also recycle aluminum cans, plastic bottles, glass and other redemptive items that I can put the money towards what I might want or need. One year when my daughter was five, we saved newspaper, aluminum cans, glass bottles and other items that the recycling depot was paying for. We would go out on Saturday morning and collect the cans and bottles. When we took the stuff in she had EARNED $45 for her Christmas shopping.
Don't give up your dreams and secret desires. Even when we are on a fixed income, there are ways to work towards our dreams.

I love miniature roses. I saw a beautiful green one today that I wanted to buy with all my want power. I didn't buy it because as I explained to my BF, my friend will be either hitting me up for more money for food or will tell me that she can't pay me back the $60 she borrowed from me to buy food for her and her husband the day he came home from the hospital. (Yes, I am getting a bit pissed at her constant borrowing and wanting to know if I got paid for various odd jobs I've done.) I didn't buy half the stuff I needed today because of that situation.
When the friend finally gets on disability, I want to get HD TV sets for the living room, work room and a smaller one for my bedroom.
As for your getting a season of the show, there are times you have to simply let go and get it because you are worth it and you will get immense enjoyment out of owning the DVD. Life is too short to continually deny yourself the little things that will bring you joy. Even now, I go out and work odd jobs and recycle aluminum so that I have a few extra dollars (even if it ends up going to my friend so she can buy them food- she really needs to budget better!) I also save my pennies and other change to help towards a special treat. There are expenses that you just can't justify, but they are necessary to make our lives just a bit nicer.

Oh, I love that show too. I didn't watch it when it was first one either. I have seen every episode over and over now but most all of them I saw in reruns. It was just before the show ended that I started watching it. I am really wanting a metal detector at the moment but, like you, I can't justify the expense right now. The price of gas is going up everyday so just about all my money goes on gas and food.

I have started watching some of the reruns too, I never really seemed to like the show that much when it was on. Now that I have started watching it, I wish they would make new episodes again.

Ok, shopping. Oh my, all I can say is its probably a good thing I don't have a credit card! lol.
I like buying clothes for my whole family, craft items for me, books, stationary supplies and knick knacks! lol. Most of which, I don't need, but really really want.
Sometimes it can't be about the cost or the need. You have to splash out every now and then to make yourself feel as though you have aquired something you wouldn't normally get. I use layby for this. Breaks the expense up over several weeks, and I get my items! lol.

I am so tired of the junk on tv these days, I hardly ever watch anything on regular local channels. I watch cable for Discovery and DIY and TV Land and such. But with having to cut expenses, my cable bill is something I am seriously looking to cancel. But I do enjoy watching tv if there is something good on...and to find something good, you have to go back to the 70's and prior! THose were the years of the best comedys, sitcoms, and movies ever to be made! Want to laugh, check out the 60's and 70's. Want an enjoyable show for the family, check the 60's and 70's. Just classic fun, laughs and good enjoyment in the shows!
I have been collecting some for some time now. The Andy Griffith Show - classic comedy - fun enjoyment. Got seasons 1-5. I am a I Love Lucy fan so I have had that full collection for some time. I have been gradually collecting -just got Here Come the Brides and GOmer Pyle USMC. I very much enjoy watching these wonderful wonderful shows.
I watch Amazon.com - for the sales. I have my wish list and periodically just go check prices. I have not paid more than $15 for a season of anything. I am patient! And if I get 2 seasons at $15 each, if you have an order over $25, you get free shipping. I have goten a few others for low price too - $10 - the Original Cheaper by the Dozen - the true family story, my favorite book since the 6th grade and I just got it for $7. I could go on, but you get the point.
GIve it a try and watch for the sales. I am not at all dreading or even realy concerned about not having TV. I can get the news off the internet and pick and hchoose what I want to listen to and not have to sit through sports, entertainment, celebrity and all that crap junk. I can also wathc most prime time shows on internet (until they start charging for that in 4 years - rumor has it!) But I'll deal with that when the time comes.
Good luck

Oh, I know. thing is, the Steve martin movie is nothing like the story is! It is totally lame in my opinion. IT wasn't a comedy. It wasn't even close to the original. I can still remember my 6th grade teacher laughing hysterically when she read the part about the father making a note to "have 12 children...6 boys and 6 girls." !

I need to have new outfit of course to make good impression. :) I also want to buy new concealer and that's going to be possible because I really need it. I also want to buy mousse for my under eye but I'll first because it's a little expensive.

I would love to splurge and replace my entire wardrobe. I have recently lost quite a few pounds so I would like to buy clothes that fit me better. Unfortunately I do not have tons of extra money so I have to slowly build a new wardrobe, one piece at a time. If you really love the show you should look into some sites online to watch reruns or episodes that you have not seen. A goof site to check out is alluc.org

I like to spend money on books and artworks. I think it c an be justified. It brings me so much joy. It is important to do something for ones mind and soul I think. If it is at all possible. many people are far less fortunate than me and cannot spend anything on themselves. I know I am lucky. I hope most have access to books in some way though. Reading is so great that i would like for everyone to somehow get the oportunity.
