A 10 year old boy in South Carolina died an hour after getting home from swimming from a little known phenomenom called 'Dry Drowning." I have never heard of this, but it was such a sad story. Have any of you ever heard of this?

I've never heard of this. It's really bizarre. To think your child is walking around and could be drowning right at that time. The poor parents. I can't imagine how they must feel right now.

I just hope she doesn't blame herself. And this was a happy occassion for the child because it was his first time to go swimming. I think pediatricians should warm parents of this danger, because I had never in my life heard of this and my 15 year old came home from swimming last week burning up with a fever. I just figured he had gotten to hot out in the sun and he had gotten sunburned, which I was upset about because I had told him to wear sunscreen and he did no, but in the end he paid for it with pain.

I've heard of that, dry drowning is something usually not noticed. It is know as secondary drowning, which occurs when fluid fills the lungs and keeps the organs from absorbing oxygen. People could walk around, talk, speak and their lungs be filled with water.
