Do you believe in gender specific toys?

I have been pondering this for a while now since it was brought up that boys that play with dolls learn to be better dads. A therapist actually told me that eons ago.
So do you believe that cars and the like are for boys and baby dolls are for girls or do you allow them to play with whatever they want to?
I know in my family, the boys loved to play with our Barbies. Then again, they were always fond of locking them up for treason and Skeletor always held them captive until He Man came.
Fun times, but imaginative.

I have 2 boys and I let them play with anything they like to play with. I don't want to put any limitations on their creativity.

i believe that whatever toy that is as long as it is educational then whatever gender of the child they can play with it. my first born is a boy though he is 17 years old already when he was a kid he plays with diferent kinds of toys. he is not the kind who plays with cars and balls. he plays with blocks and puzzles. when he learned to hold a pencil is was in love on drawing. he likes to draw and color is too. he loves to play with clay and mold then on figures i sometimes can not say what lol. actually parents are the one who decides what are the toys for girls and boys and not the kid, they dont know yet what is the toys for girls and what are the toys specifically for guys

I am hoping that one of my kids picks up the artistic ways. Right now my boy just doesn't have the focus for it.

I have a 2 year old daughter. When I buy her a new toy, we go to the toy section and I ask her what she wants. As long as it's in our price range, and it's something that she can actually play with, she can have it. She has police cars, matchbox cars, color books, baby dolls (although she hasn't wanted barbies yet) fake bugs (she absolutely loves them) and a bunch of other stuff. I don't see anything at all wrong with letting her pick what she wants, because after all, she's the one that's going to play with it, not me.

Hello Tanniebabe, I dont have children of my own but I would just let them play with whatever they liked. As long as they are enjoying themselves, who cares what kind of toys they are playing with. I dont see anything wrong at all with it anyway.
Hugs, Tianna

I agree with this totally. I think it would be more of a guy's protest to have their boys play with dolls.
