Do you know calico cats are almost always female?

Yep, that is your cat fact for the day. I got a free baby kitten out in front of Kmart about 15 years ago. She was so tiny she fit in the palm of my hand. I had to take her to the vet and have her checked out because I did not think she was going to make it. We had to feed her with a dropper and give her alot of TLC. Needless to say she survived and when we took her in to get fixed the vet mentioned this interesting fact to me. If you would like to know the exact science behind it you can go to www.petplace.com and search the question.

Is a calico cat the same as a tortoise shell?

No. A tortoiseshell cat's coat is brindled with very little or no white. Calico's are mostly white with patches of red and black with no brindling. But like the calico, tortoiseshell cat's are almost always female.
Check out.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/calico_cat for good pictures on these two types of cats.

Yes! I have a calico cat. That's interesting to know. Everyone who sees her commments her on what a pretty torty she is! Now I can say "No! She's a calico!"
