How was your labour?

My waters broke the night before I had my baby, Ezekiel. I was induced because I had a high temperature. I was already 4cm's dilated at this stage. so they decided to induce me. at 6.30pm, i was induced. At 8.30pm the strong contractions started and i couldn't handle the pain anymore so i decided to use the gas mask. After another hour just onthe gas mask, i was begging for an epidural, but my partner said that i don't want it lol. WHAT A MEANY! so, we decided i would have a pethidine shot. This reduced the pain by about 25% and helped me through the labour. At roughly midnight, i was crowning. By 12.06am Ezekiel arrived and there was much relief. My labour went for 5 hours and 35 minutes all up. I had two tears and was stitched up afterwards. I had to have a urinary catheter (a urine bag connected straight into my bladder) inserted because of where the tears were. This stayed in for two days. I was in pain for one month afterwards bcause of the position of the tears, the stitches take a while to heal.
so, tell me about your labour?..

My husband and I went to the hospital when I was in the beginning stages of labor on December 10th 2007 at 8:53 P.M. The next day I was still not in full labor so my doctor had to give me pitocin to induce my contractions. I didn't get an epidural because I didn't like the thought of a giant needle being that close to my spine so they gave me an IV of Demerol. The Demerol didn't get rid of the pain...it only helped me cope with the pian so I felt everything, but I was so tired from the Demerol that I didn't care I was in so much pain. After every time I pushed I fainted because it hurt so much. It took almost three hours even after they induced me. I didn't tear, but I did have to have an episiotomy at 9:09 P.M on December 11th. My daughter was born at 9:11 P.M. I didn't see her until my nurse woke me up to feed her. It was a very wonderful experience except for the fact that after my daughter was born my husband went to the house and smoked a buch of pot to "celebrate" so I was at the hospital in stiches and taking care of our daughter by myself. I am still upset about that.

I would have been mad at my husband too if he had done that.
And you did have a hard time.
During my first delivery, my mom came over to help me out. My in-laws were staying near our place but didn't offer to help. The day I had my baby, my mother-in-law sent my mother home to cook for 'her son' (she could have easily got him something to eat or invited him over to her place for dinner) telling her that my in-laws would be there with me. 15 minutes after my mother left, she made some excuse about my father-in-law not being able to drive in the dark and left me all alone at the hospital (I wasn't even in a position to pick up crying baby and feed him). Fortunately, our household help came in to check in on me and seeing me all alone, she stayed till my mother came (her own daughter had a baby 10 days back...but since it was her 3rd and there were others to take care of them, the help could stay with me).

Oh my! sounds like you had a tough time with that one.
With my older one, I had a very easy labour. I had him two hours after labour pains started. My water broke when I was at home...and contractions started. I walked down four flights of stairs (lift out of order), walked to the hospital (someone had cross parked behind our car and it was 4.30 am), climbed up the stairs (guessed if I had walked so much, I could manage a few stairs too)...and got to a nurse who checked and said I was ready to have my baby right then! I wasn't due for another 3 weeks...and I had expected to stay in the hospital for a few days before I had my baby. Instead, I was whisked to the labour ward and the doctor was there soon and I had my baby without too much trouble. I had a few stitches but no catheter and walked to the room soon after the delivery (with help, of course). The tear took around 2 weeks to heal...and I was in pain for a week or so.
With the second one, I didn't go into labour at all. He was full term...and I had an emergency C-section on my due date because the cord was around his neck and it had tightened around his neck and this was restricting the oxygen flow to his brains. I had a catheter for 2 days (the doctor actually said a day but I requested for another day because I couldn't walk..which is what you are expected to do when the catheter comes off). The pain for this one was real bad compared to my first...and I remember telling anyone who would listen that if I had a C-section the first time round, I would have never had another baby (well, I know now that that wouldn't be the case and I would be clamouring for another baby a few months later). The stitches took a little more than 3 weeks to heal properly.

Wow. You sure did have it rough the second time around. After I had my first child my husband said that he never wanted to see me in that much pain again and we agreed that our daughter will be the only child we will have. He has three other children that aren't from me so I think what he really meant was that he has enough already. I want another child so bad, but I suppose that I can wait.

I was induced both times, with my first daughter it took over a day to work but in the afternoon they wanted to moniter me and she was laid funny so they asked me to turn on my side and as I did I had a huge pain like a muscle being ripped apart I thought id pulled something as I turned but turned out I was in labour, 10 minutes later my waters broke and they decided to examine me and I was allready 7 cms in the two minutes it took to get up to the labour ward I made it to 10cms and started pushing when I got there 2 hours it took before she was born but it was so quick the full process (2 hours 45 minutes) she was really shocked and very poorly and spent some time in NICU.
With our second daughter I went in at 7am and by 9am they had started the induction process my partner took our eldest home to his neice and was back with me by 1pm where I was getting pains so we went for a week to help speed it up. They then examined me and was 3cms so they sent me to the labour and delivery room where they broke my water with gas and air and a shot of pethidine she was born in 1hour 23 minutes with only 15 minutes of pushing.
Im really lucky once I start pushing I dont have any pain at all do with our first daughter I had no pain releif as once Iwas at the labour room I was pushing. I had really easy births I was very lucky!
