My religion is better than yours???

Good God, it seems that lately I've been seeing more and more topics about "my religion is better than yours", "your holy scripture is totally wrong" and "only my God can save you" kind of discussions at myLot that usually ends in people flaming eachother... What the *beeep*? Can't we all have some civilized conversations here?
In the wake of these topics, I'd like to share my two cents. I don't think God is that shallow. I don't think God judges people only by their faith/religion/believe. If God wants to throw people other than from a certain religion/faith/believe to hell, then fine. He can throw me down to hell as well. And then, maybe, all the good people and me that have been casted down to hell, just because some shallow view of people's qualities, can start making hell a better place to live.

You know, the older I get the more I realise that the more someone claims exclusivity to God, the more I realise they are no where near God. It's like mankind has dicovered the talent to make what should be Godly and God into something quite UnGodly.

Exactly my point. It seems that people who claim exclusivity to God is, on the contrary, trying to distort the image of God according to their liking (and their earthly goals).

" My father in heaven can beat your father in heaven," Who cares. Religion is such a personal choice. And as long as your path is right for you , that's what counts.

Yeah. I know the kind. And I am not impressed.
You know, I think ALL religions may have a piece of the puzzle, but not the whole truth. So it's really important to learn about all people and all beliefs, as much as possible, so that we can try to put together what we can and find truth?
No one way is totally correct, I believe. Maybe God put little pieces here and there to try to force us to get along and teach each other the parts we know, so later on the ones that keep an open mind will go to learn more. The REAL hell, I think, is ignorance. The real heaven, if you want to call it that, is education and caring/open-mindedness and explorative thought!

My best friend and I have a tendency to discuss this a lot. We're both Christian, but we both are open-minded enough to realize that not everyone believes the same things. Some people are raised to believe other things. People are willing to accept peoples accents or where a person is from, they're willing to accept their interests and hobbies, so why not accept their beliefs? It's not fair to judge people on what they believe when sometimes we're blind sighted and only focus on what we believe, anyways. Whenever everyone takes the time to actually get to know what other beliefs are out there and what everyone sees as right, then maybe people could start saying something. But very, VERY few people in the world take the time to do that.
The way I see it, if you want the right to say one religion is right or wrong, you'd need to experience each and every religion, and that's not going to happen. The world would be a bit of a better place if people would stop with the "holier than thou" attitudes about their religions.

Religion can't save a person.Dating back to the olden days, wars were triggered because of Religion. Actually, religion has little ties with culture, so it doesn't really mean that it's purely God's footsteps that we follow for their are people who has their own interpretations of the bible. Well,it my absurd to think, but there are also religios leader who brainwash people's mind, rule them , and even milking people. So, I hope, we should be logical enough and use our brain sometimes to weigh things. Moreover, in some people's mind, they got scared of commiting sins because there's a heaven and hell. Or any way, they are afraid of God. My dears, the essence of being good is not because we are scared of God or scared of heaven and hell. Being good should be a part of being us. For me, doin good things makes me happy. And I can say "it's fun to be good!'.

It certainly beats bashing and flaming each other in terms of fun. Unless you actually enjoy all the bashing and flaming (and getting bashed and flamed in return). :D
Cheers!

I love your post it gave me a chuckle. I sincerely mean that. However if hell is what they say it is I don't think there is any posibility of making it a better place. About the religion thing and all the different faiths; when I was younger I use to think the same thing. Why not, why can't there be different beliefs on who God is or how to get to him or whatever the case may be. Then one day it dawned on me if I were the creator of this universe and I set everything in motion then wouldn't I want to be acknowledge for who I am. I thought this way because one day I realized everyone on this planet likes to be thought of and except for who they truly are and not how someone preceives them and no one likes it when people try to fit them into some kind of mold. So I thought God must be the same way. So what ever he says goes. I think the important thing is to find out who God is and the only way to do that is to ask him ourselves and let HIM lead us into HIS truth.

I totally agree with you forcing our views on people doesn't help anyone. Being open to listening to everyone is important for exceptance. I don't know that even Jesus forced himself on anyone. He did talk, he did speak truths in parables but left it to the people to decide for themselves. Who are we to push and shove if he didn't do it Himself. Free will, freedom of choice Jesus is the creator and leader of!

"I like your Christ, but I do not like you Christians. You Christians are so unlike your Christ."
-Mohandas K. Gandhi
How true Gandhi was. That's why I always strive to be more like Christ, to prove Gandhi wrong. Jesus never forced His views unto anyone. At least, not that I'm aware of.

That depends on how you view hell. See http://theuglytruth.wordpress.com/2008/2/10/the-difference-between-heaven-and-hell/. I've heard this story since I was a child, and it still seems relevant to me. Heaven/Hell depends on what you make of it. I agree with you in that we should ask God for His guidance, but that doesn't give us the right to force our views onto others.
Peace.

I do not think that the topic is going to solve anything. For thousands of years, people have gone to their deaths in the name of their religion and now, people are going to their deaths because of their religions and even after we are all long gone, people will go to their deaths because of religion.
All I have to conclude with is this: Jesus Christ said that many will die in His name, and so be it. It will be my honor and my duty to die for my Lord and Savior should it come down to it.

I just wanted to bring the topic up. I wasn't really trying to solve anything, because it seems that fanatics will always be just that, fanatics. I agree with you in that it would be an honor to die for my Lord and Saviour. But it's a different point if you bring doom unto yourself by bashing about other people's beliefs. From experience, I've learned that the best way to get people to notice you (in a positive manner, of course) is by giving an example. You don't get people to view you positively if you continue to bash them. But if you live your life as example to others, I'm pretty sure people would start to get interested in you (and your religion, eventually).

Oh yeah I have surely heard this BS around many a times. I was seeing a show which was talking about the movie., " The Blood Diamond" and the actor, Leonardo, says this " looking at all this makes me feel that god has left this place long back" I firmly believe that he is right and There is no god. I do not believe in religion and have had a lot of harsh talking with friends who believe in god and cannot find solace in the fact that I do not believe in one. No religion is great. The only religion that is great is HUMANISM. Follow it if you can.

Yes, it's a pity that very few people actually follow it. You won't hear an argument from me on that topic.

But very few people follow it and those few are the ones who make a difference in the world. For all I know, humanism is supposed to be good to fellow humans.. How many people who say they are religious following it? " Oh we are good to our fellow mates" they might say, but this world doesn't belong to people of one religion. So before any one talks bout others, should think on a very large scale rather than a small one and be a frog in the well.

Good for you. :) I'm a Christian, and I'm proud of it too. But that's not my point here. It's just that there are some here who think they know the best, and try to force their view onto others...

No matter what religion you are under, whatever you call your God, there is only one God for all. Buddhists call him Buddha, Muslims call him Allah, Christians call him God. All of them points to one thing.
No religion is better than the other. Religion is there to guide us and lead us the right path. I don't think God will make people just to let the fight because of Him. Pathetic. And the people who makes religion a reason for killing someone else is the embodiment of Satan, no matter if he's a Muslim, Christian, Jew or whatever. Pathetic freaks.
And yeah, I don't think there is a hell. Remember, all religions say that God loves us. Do you think God will not do anything to save us from hell? I just want to remind everybody about the Prodigal Son. No matter how sinful you are, God will always love you. No matter how evil you are, there is always something good in you. No matter who you are, God will accept you.
All in all, there is no such thing as one right or true or best religion. All the religions here are just a physical way to communicate and see God, in our own little way. After you die, God will not ask you "What religion are you from?". Instead, I feel like he will say something like "Welcome home my child".
God bless you all.

I couldn't agree more with you. Actually I can tell you many reasons why each and every single religion has mistakes the point is that we should live ethically and god (if there is one) will judge us for that.

I've experience that too.Two particular Chinese born again Christians were contradicting my beliefs/faith.They said,"You shouldn't worship Mary" when they knew that Catholics pray the Hail Mary and they also said that the practices/beliefs/traditions of Catholics are wrong and they are trying to "make me realize that what we Catholics do is wrong.I really find them annoying. Why can't they respect that there are other religions who have many different practices/beliefs/traditions.I really would like to say that in their faces and I'd also like to say the words that you've quoted in this discussion.

I agree with you whole heartedly!!! About time this topic was broached!!! I too am a Christian (of the United faith), however, that title does not mean that I follow any one teaching to a fault. I believe in many different things, from many different religions. In the end the thing that people need to realize here is that the only thing that matters in this world, is not what others do, or whom they worship, but what matters for each person is their individual relationship with their perception of their Creator, be it God, Jesus, Jehovah, or the Deities of the Greek religion...whomever...If you treat people the way that you wish to be treated, if you are with a kind heart even when it seems to suck the life out of you, and you have some kind of a belief, then you have no worries, and who cares what the neighbour is doing, right?

"I don't think God judges people only by their faith/religion/believe"
Exactly, We share The same View, I Have started a Discussion about That, "A Falsity in Your belief, Beware of it", It is Not true That God Only by their Faith, Because There is Both Sinners and righteous Among Followers Of Every Single religion.

Religion is nothing but a some rules which is to bind same group of people , to dont do any thing wrong. Nothing is good and nothing is bad , it is respective thing which depeends person to person , and people to people.

I totally understand your point. I left many forums and such just because of all that. To many people relying on what they are taught. Instead of studying it out for themselves.
Religion can be one of the nastiest things on the planet. (My Opinion) I love have the relationship with Jesus. From what He tells me. He loves us, while yet we were sinners.
People trying to tell us what to do and what not to do just makes us want to the opposite. To much arguing instead of answering questions.
Just my 2 cents. lol
