What Text Plan do you have for your Kids?

This drives me crazy. When I was a kid, it was a BIG priveledge to get one of the HOUSE PHONES hooked up in your BEDROOM when you were, like...in High School!
So my son, 14 has his Very Own Cell Phone and Plan...
Because "Everyone does, Mom!"
It costs 39.99 for the plan, and then TEXTING, of course, is extra...
After I saw how many texts he was using, I bought him a plan of 200 Texts for $5.00 per month. I thought 200 texts was alot.
When the bill came, it was like $75!
He had used the 200 texts, PLUS 150 more!
So...I bought the $10 plan for 500 texts.
NOW he's asking me to buy him the $20 Unlimited Texting plan because all he does is texts and doesn't actually ever talk!
He said all the other kids have unlimited. Ahhhhh!!!

Unlimited what? Unlimited parental resources maybe. I'm a parent but not an advice giver but I think you should take the SIM card out and curb his habit.

Lol, I wish you would post a picture of yourself sometime, because everytime you leave me a comment it sounds like you are yelling at me, and I'd like to see if you actually look mean or not.
Were you the one who thought I sounded like I was 'scolding' you about a week ago?
Or was that someone else?

It was me, but I got over it. :) I'm not yelling at you, I don't mean it to sound that way, sorry.

He, he, he! I always wanted a pink pricess phone. Never got it though. Guess what? I'm still alive. Even though kids say that others have this or that doesn't always mean it's true. Even if there are some "rich kids" around doesn't mean that you need to shell out all the time for everything that catches a kids attention. Although I think it's absurd for a kid that young to have a cell phone doesn't mean that I don't get it. I do. Having a cell is cool and pretty much essential. Having him on a cheaper $10 plan will also teach him that texting costs money and that he needs to not "spend" on useless texts. He'll learn something that way. If you cave in and go for the $20 a month unlimited he won't get the message. He's 14 he can get a paper route. Heck if he gave you $10 bucks a month from that alone I'd be inclined to say give him the $20 plan. It's just my opinion that he needs to realise that $20 is not something that just comes out of the air. After all mommy needs to post a heck of a lot of texts on mylot to make that!

Lol, Yea, but the bad thing is, when OTHER Kids text HIM, it costs HIM money! There is no way to stop the texts from coming in! I wish there was!

Well, that sounds outrageous!
My boy is only five and autistic so I really don't have much of an opinion but I did not have a cell phone until after I graduated from three years of college....I'm thirty!
My sister-in-law is 17 and she does not have one either because her Mom cannot afford it....You have to say no at some point! I personally think fourteen is too young for a cell.

Lol, I truly thought everyone's kid had one.
Everyone I know has kids that have one.
I asked the question thinking other people would tell me which plan they chose for their kids, but I'm getting all replies from people who have never heard of such a thing and it sounds like they are all yelling at me.

wow! at 14? For me, it will be better to set a limit since if we will always say YES, it might be hard to discipline anymore once he will be older.Just my opinion! But, if you will talk to him like , granting that request but it will be the last amount that you will grant for him!

I work for a major cell phone company. I hear this daily, lol!
Who is your cell phone carrier? The one I work for offers a block for ALL messaging. You may want to remind him that if he doesn't stay under his limit, it can go away entirely.
Good luck!
