I've heard a lot of Evanescence's songs and their style has changed somewhat. Do you think they really have a true gothic spirit or are they just posing to be popular?

I am not a huge fan of Evanescence except for a couple of songs, so I am not familiar with their music and how it has evolved over the years. However, one of my best friends is a HUGE fan of Evanescence and Amy Lee (who I agree does have a pretty good voice which sounds especially seductive with the style of music she seems to specialize in), and he said that their new album had leaned a lot more towards "pop" than their previous records had, and therefore he was disappointed and felt that it did not live up to his expectations. He said it was full of those keyboard loops and "soundscapes" and other electronic pop influences that are being seen more and more in music with an otherwise non-mainstream sound. According to my friend, they seemed to be following the pop trend.
I have never heard any of their new stuff, so I would not be able to confirm this for sure. I just heard it from a friend who is a die-hard fan.
Sometimes it is hard to know how to react to that. If it is a change an artist truly wants to make in their career then I think they deserve support and encouragement - and I say this as I am an artist myself - but at the same time, when their new image is not what you initially knew and loved them for, it can be very hard to accept.

Well,im not a goth, and I love evanescence. Amy Lee is really a great vocalist. So I wouldn't know about "gothic spirit", but I think shes pretty freakin good!
