Do you want cheese on that?

When you order a burger, does it bother you when they ask you if you want cheese on it? Especially when you have a large order and they ask you after every burger you order.
I know someone who has a very short fuse when it comes to that question. He thinks if he wanted cheese on that, he would have asked.
Does anyone else find this bothersome or is he alone? Are there other questions that bother you when you order food?

I think its a pretty odd question to ask. If you are ordering from say mcdonalds are burger king unless you say hamburger i would think they would assume you are wanting a cheeseburger and wouldn't even have to ask if you want cheese on that.

I find this an extremely odd question, since there are those things called hamburgers, and cheeseburgers. If someone wants cheese on a burger, woudln't they just order a cheeseburger?
NOW, I can see it on items like a Whopper. While Big Macs automatically come wih cheese, I don't think Whoppers do, so one needs to REMEMBER to ask for a whopper with cheese. I think I would be very happy i someone asked me if I wanted cheese on a specialty burger, if I had forgotten to ask for it, or did not know it was an option, or that the burger didn't already come with cheese on it.

That's what I am talking about, is pretty much the whopper. Right on their menu board, It has Whopper and then in the same square it says with cheese add $.XX. He thinks that if he wanted a Whopper with cheese, he would have asked for a Whopper with cheese.
Thanks for your response.

I don't think they are peons at all. I used to work at a fast food place when I was in high school. I loved it, mainly because the people I worked with were great.
I see it from both sides. I know they are told to sell, sell, sell, just like in any business. I explained that side to him and now he is a little better about it. Now what he does is beat them to the punch. He says, "Can I have a Whopper, without cheese..." Sometimes people just need to be enlightened about the other side of the story and then they are more understanding.
Thanks for your response.

Usually, the only place that ever asks me that is Wendy's. That is where cheese is like a condiment. The other places have cheeseburgers on their menus. I have no problem saying no, though. If I am in a hurry, I might sound kind of grumpy though. BUT, the customer is always right. LOL

I don't find it bothersome if the waiter or waitress asks me if I want cheese on that. what does bother me is when they ask you and then there is an additional charge is on your bill. This happened to me one time. They asked me if I wanted cheese and I said yes and they did not tell me it was an additional charge. I think they should have disclosed this when taking my order. I was really irritated by this. And when I complained they did not take it off the bill. Now if any one asks I always inquire if it will be an additional charge. If I feel like having it I will pay. Most times they will not charge additional.

Hi There.
I always request to add more cheese or ask for a double cheeseburger. I love cheese on my burgers then a lot of ketchups! YUMMY!
Cheers!

Sorry about that. I made the assumption that everyone would be familiar with what I was talking about.
Burger King has a Whopper or a Whopper with cheese. If you order a Whopper, they automatically ask you if you want cheese on it.
Thanks for your question.

I never care whether they add cheese or not because I don't usually pay attention to that. My wife is a person who wants something that she don't want to be not added. She don't want too much pepper in foods that would make her not comfortable to eat. Other than that it is fine.

The one that bothers me the most is when you finish ordering they say "would you like to try a blah, blah, blah" I believe it is taco bell that does this. My response is usually "is it free?" or say no, no, no, as soon as they start talking. I mean you're trying to get through the drive through and get back to work and they are wasting your time trying to sell you something else.

I know what you mean. The workers have no control over that though. Even though they are the ones that have to ask the dreaded questions, they are told to do it.
Maybe everyone would have a little more patience with them if they weren't told to push so many things; cheese, fried, coke, super size, etc.

I am with your friend on this one it bothers me to have the person ask me if I want cheese on every single one of the burgers I'm ordering. Is there a secret threat that only fast food places know of that we have so much cheese if we don't eat it all up then Armageddon is gonna come?
Another thing that bothers me is when the drive up person pushes you to hurry up and order even though you are ordering at a nice even pace. There is a burger King worker locally here that even when you ask for a minute to see what you want in about 2 seconds she will say "how can I help you?" I understand it's a drive-thru but can I just see what the other people in my car want to eat? I try to get everyone's order before we get to the speaker but some are undecided.

Well, I am not from the USA but while I was there I actually never encountered anyone asking me if I wanted cheese on my Whopper.
To be honest, I don't like cheeseburgers and usually if a fast food outlets offers burgers that standardly comes with cheese I'd ask for it to left out.
When I go to Subway and order sandwiches I ask for the cheese to be left off on mine too *shrugs*

Hi ,
I am lucky no one has ever asked me that in a long time . We I was on a band trip may years back we went to the Hard Rock Cafe to eat. Well their burgers don't come with cheese and they must of asked our table if wanted cheese with that a 100 times. Yes, it can be annoying, annoying with anything really.

That doesn't bother me as much as whole dollar hikes to add a slice of cheese, or another buck for a slice of bacon, that really make me want to scream. A freakin' dollar for a slice of cheese or any other accessories whose idea was that? And why can't I get a standard burger that comes with everything including cheese? If I don't want cheese then I'll tell them, excuse me sir I don't want cheese or lettuce and tomatoes with my burger. I don't this is so much true with fast food, but at a sit down burger joint they charges you extras for everything on your burger. What a rip off. There goes your 10 bucks burger and you didn't even know it.

I know, everything is getting so expensive now. Soon we will have to decide if we need gas for the car or if we need to eat.
At least when restaurants charge you extra, you get something extra. Gas stations charge extra for the same old gas.
Thanks for your response too.
