What's the system of high school students go to college?

Today, in China, millions of Senior High School students take the entrence examination of universities. Thought such examinatons students will be selected to different universities according to their scores,but quite few of the students can go to the college they would like to go. Whether then can go to university or go to a ideal university totally depends on these examinations, including Chinese, math, English, some subjects of art or some of science. Many students get higher scores than usual may go to a better university, while some did worse than usual will fail in going to colloge. Such situation can be disrcibed as millions of people go through of a little bridge,therefore, obviously, many people will be crowded and then fell into river, therefore they fail to go across the river.
