We saw a commercial the other day that said one out of every five people has herpes. I think it was a valtrex commercial.
I find this hard to believe. I know there are alot of people who have this condition, but one out of every five people? That seems like an awful lot to me. I don't know anyone with it personally, and you'd think with those odds that I would.
So, what do you think?

No I have never known anyone who has herpes. At least I don't know anyone who has told me they have it someone could have it and you would know it. It does seem like a high statistic you wonder where they get there statistics from.

Yeah, that does seem like a pretty high statistic. I don't personally know anyone with it either--or at least, not that I know of. I guess it's always possible that someone I know has it and just hasn't told me. Fortunately, I'm in a committed marriage, so I don't have to worry about contracting it myself, but it does seem a little unusual that so many people would have it. If one out of five people really do have it, and I'm around hundreds of people all day at school and work, then that would be lots of people!

Hi sunnflr.
I think that herpes is a condition that many people do not share information about. So, how could we really know who has it and who doesn't?
What I am not sure about is whether there are other forms of herpes besides genital herpes. I think there are.

You are talking about Genital Herpes, The add was more than likely addvertizing a cream for Herpes which is a Cold Sore on the mouth around the lips? It starts as a tiny spot then a blister and then it pops and is a sore that is what the cream is for.It is very unsightly and painful a lot of people have this. It reacures once you have had it and there is no permanant cure.

I've never known anyone with herpes so that statistic sounds pretty high to me, too. Maybe the valtrex people don't want the people who do have genital herpes to feel self conscious about seeing their doctor to get a prescription.
