What, in your opinion, makes good music good? What makes bad music bad?

I've been trying to work out a list of the most influential songs ever recorded and I wonder, what do people like in music? So I just want to know what the best quality an amazing song has. For example, I've noticed that all amazing songs have a slow section (usually beginning) and a ending fast section. (Stairway to Heaven, Come Sail Away, For Those About To Rock We Salute You etc.)

Good question. For me it's not so much about the timing or even the flow. It's a certain sound the song has that just "moves" me. So to speak. Only certain songs do this, it's a note or a line that just tugs at my brain. Strange as that might sound...

it is strange, though i know exactly what you mean. its almost as if a certain chord just sends a message to our brain giving us a true vision of what the writer had in mind

"Bolero" is one of my favorites! I saw Blast! in February and that song was my favorite, second only to the "Battery Battle" (And that's just because I'm a drummer)Musically, it was the best though.

I think you're partially right. Not all of the epic songs I love are about love exactly, but they relate to it in some way. Like "Come Sail Away". It never mentions love, but would make a great pick-up line/song (Come sail away with me...)

To me, it's all about the music. Lyrics are really important; but a good song has to have a really amazing musical flow. If you are looking for a piece that is intense; then you need really good complex harmony's. Minor mode help that a great deal. Sweet, keep the melody as the important accent and keep it simple. There's so much to it. Cheers!

I consider myself as a lover of music as I really like all kinds of music. I like music for meditations, working, exercising, reading, etc. Ihave had the opportunity to be in contact with all types and love them all. I like music with sounds of the forest, jungles, the ocean, dolphins, etc. especially for meditations and reading. I like music with songs in English and Spanish for my working atmosphere but soft. If I go to a party,I accept and like the rock, rap and accept hard steel but not for work as this music is hard on the nerves and in work I need a lot of concentration. I have a long time that I have not heard the music "Stairway to Heaven" or "Come Sail Away", I would love to be able to obtain them. Have an excellent day, filled with love and music and lots of sunshine to light your path. Fil918
