I'm interested in reading the original story of Robin Hood. Unfortunately when I put the title in, numerous books pop up. Does anyone know who wrote the original story? Also, is it considered a children's book? I ask that because there are many versions in childrens books. Thanks!

I don't believe there is one original author. Robin Hood is part of English folklore, so there's not one writer to trace the story to.
Wikipedia says the earliest surviving story about him is called Robin Hood and the Monk. It's a ballad and it's in Old English (or Middle English, I can never tell which is which). It's online.

Thanks so much! I knew it was a folktale, but I thought that there was actually an original story written that was available.
